All GM's develop intake leaks. Thanks deathcool!!
The replacement gaskets are supposedly immune to the dex.
Freaken dexcool crap. Screw that when I do the coolant this year I'm using something else.

To bad I gave all my Mercedes coolant to Joe, I could have used Mercedes coolant.

Not all GM's.....my uncle has a 1996 cavalier he bought new and it now has 130k on it, and has NEVER had the original DEXCOOL coolant changed out. Runs at normal temp.....no leaks.....in fact the engine doesn't leak or burn anything at all. It can go a year/7k between Mobil 1 5w30 Synthetic changes and the level on the stick remains unchanged. Amazing. Its the 2.2 liter ecotec engine.

Doesnt dexcool become sludge when you mix it with other coolants?

Hattie, IIRC the 4.3L has coolant passaged intakes on that truck, I'll hafta give Alldata a check at work and see if theres anything of relevance on it

And Dexcool has been reformulated so it would be ok to use new stuff. BUT Im not a fan of it myself, so im gonna use BMW coolant in my 2500 here when i repair a coolant pipe. Bimmer or Zerex G-05 would be the best IMO, just flush it ALL out real good, heater core and all before refillin with good stuff. Just a good flush should suffice unless theres gunk in there. Other wise i would NOT do a citrus flush or anything. Maybe a weaker off the shelf Autozoo flush if its dingy only.

Skippy~ As for perception: Drive what you like and can afford. Those who don't like it can supply vacuum to one of your components. LOL

If you need parts, I have some!

Thats what I'm thinking. Most likely its original coolant, but it looks clean. So I'll probably just flush it with water, than refill with distilled and G05.

As for the leak it could be the upper hose...I'm hoping it is. I'll have to clean the coolant off and drive it to find out.

See, its not a MB and you still have to do work on it. You can't escape car repairs.....might as well just get a MB!

I will, when I can afford one with a warranty. I'm done with rusty old junk, and greasy cars.

OTOH GM parts are like 1/5 the cost of MB parts.

I'll buy one next, IMHO its a better truck than this one. Not that the Chevy is a bad truck, GM just fell a bit short in a few areas.

For starters the F150 rides a lot better on the highway and is quieter. On long trips we take my dads truck.
The interior of the standard F150 is nicer with a center armrest. The Chevy is lacking this. The seats are about the same, I like the older GM dash's better(mine), the new one isn't as nice.
Fords base motors have more balls than GM's. The V6 in the F150 feels like it has 30hp on the V6 in my truck.
Ford puts wider door pockets on their doors, Chevy's are pretty narrow. As a result getting my tape out is harder.
Ford uses disc brakes all around, my truck still has drums. Which is a mixed bag, Toyota loves rear drums to.
The Chevy gets slightly better fuel mileage than the Ford, about 1mpg.

One thing I dislike about most new trucks is they jack them up so they look big and macho. I prefer a low ridding truck like mine, or my uncles 1500 SS. They are easyer to load and get in and out of. On the F150 you can fix this by removing the lift block on the rear axle, GM's fix is probably similer. Or buy the SS if they ever bring it back, I know I will.

Another thing is the switch to larger tires which costs more. Their is no reason for my truck to have 17in wheels, 16's would be perfectly fine. But when I get tires its going to cost me $100 more as a result.
