I think that is stupid.

I can maybe see charging more money for more weight (after all, weight uses fuel), thing is, let the charge be reasonable. If my bag is heavy, don't screw me out of an extra fifty bucks...charge me for a second bag.

Personally, I have not been charged for a heavy bag...BUT.... should the day come where my bag exceeds their limit (say 50lbs), then I will not only get a second bag, but I will also make sure that both weight 49lbs, ...even if I have to add half a dozen bricks.

On a related note, does anyone see the day when it's not just the bag that's weighed, but the passengers as well? How 'bout a 160 lb guy with a 40 lb bag vs. a 300 lb guy with a 15 lb carry on? Seems like the airline spends more to fly the heavy guy.

My wife and I just flew to Atlanta last weekend on Air-Tran. We didn't know until after buying the tickets online that we were to be charged $15 each way for one bag! Ugh.

I seen once where the passengers didn't have the cash (or credit card) to pay the fee. It causes a huge tie up in check-in.

What ticks me off the most is that I can't bring any bathroom products without paying for it. I can't bring toothpaste, shaving cream, mouthwash, etc unless I check it....and I have to pay to check it.

If they don't let you bring things in containers larger than 3oz in your carry-on, they should let you check a small bag containing just toiletries.

The best option for the passenger at this point is to bring thine bags onboard. Get a shoulder bag and small sized suitcase and have at it. No additional fees and no waiting for your baggage.

If they are going to charge a fee for checked bags they (airlines) need to stick to their guns on the amount of baggage carried on. Couple last weekend getting on at Cleve both had roller bags, both had back packs, she had suitcase sized purse, diaper bag and lap child.

I find it more secure to UPS or FEDEX my baggage to where ever it is that I'm going. This way, I dont' have the possibility of losing my items that I packed, and I have yet to have lost luggage. Of course, this isn't good if you are only staying for a night or two, but is very helpful if you are going there for vacation.

My sentiments exactly. Why should I pay the same when my total weight on the aircraft (bags included) is significantly less than the extra-jumbo sitting next to me taking all the armrest space? There should be a weight allowance that can be split between passenger, one checked bag, and all carry on items, exceed that number, start paying. Kinda pisses me off to be subsidizing obese people every time I fly.

On the over weight bag issue, I always weigh my bags before checking in at a vacant counter. The scales are always on, so you can get an official weight before getting to the front of the line. Really helpful when your wife tends to pack heavy.... Although, I once was getting on my return flight with the same bag that I had brought out, same load, but due to horrible weather and wet items, it was 3 lbs over. The flight was way overbooked, I had been in line for 2 1/2 hours. Upon placing the bag on the scale, I saw the overweight while the attendant was focused elsewhere, so I casually gripped the edge of the bag and carefully lifted until it weighed 49.5 lbs. Had to hold it for a couple minutes before I got it through, with a congrats from the attendant for packing so accurately.

Already being done (or considered, I don't remember which) in France.

My round trip ticket the the Keys next month was $18 plus tax. 4 days of parking and gas is costs more than my plane ticket.
