There is no reclining into my area. It's the physical principle that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. One object is the back of the seat. The second object are a pair of knees. The knees win.

I flew to FL last month and didn't have a problem, but since its a short flight my carry on was a book.

I travel light so I don't have any problem with their baggage fee's. Unless I'm going into the wilderness I figure I'll just buy whatever I forget.

The $15 Knee Defender is from another thread, but should be in everyone's carry on

Doesn't work if you're 6'4".

With the tray table down, you must extend your legs under the seat to accommodate the table, otherwise it won't completely lower.

You are then forced to keep your legs extended for as long as the table remains down...........not very comfortable. Furthermore if you are willing to extend your legs under the seat, the original problem fails to exist.

To me it is not the fees as so much as the idiots at the counter. Two weeks ago I dropped off my girlfriend at the airport who was going to Paris for the month to visit her daughter, who is in law school there, and she had the right to two bags of 23 kilos each.

1st bag came in at 20 kilos, the 2nd came in at 24 kilos. They wanted to charge her US150, for the extra kilo in the one bag. The sum total of both was 2 kilos less than the maximum allowed. Anyway, after a few minutes of going back and forth, we moved 1.5 kilos out of the "overweight" bag into the lighter bag. It was a pain, but there was no way I was going to give the airline another US150 for this stupidity.

OK< I understand that they have maximum. But one kilo, come on!!!!! And total weight within their rules. A little judegement on behalf of the person at the counter could have helped make the check in so much nicer.

I had a similar situation with Continental. Two bag limit........50 lb. per bag. I had one bag......53 lb.

They let it go.

The weekly Air Tungaru flight from Christmas Island to Honolulu used to have a lot of overweight baggage, mostly fishermen from Hawaii shipping back ice chests full of fish.

The airline agents had a hard time figuring out the charges for each individual passenger, so they simply added up all the overweight charges, and charged the last guy getting on the plane.

Don't wanna pay? Fine, you're stuck on the island for another week...

Yup, that's pretty much the reason why our our large Delsey and Samsonite bags aren't used anymore. They're already heavy and the risk of exceeding the weight is nearly certain. Invested in one of those travel weighing scales and it more than paid for itself in just one trip, knowing how to redistribute the stuff.

I love the old Samsonite bags................without the space consuming handle that is a necessary evil for the handicapped.

If someone tries to stop me from reclining my seat with those things they will have to move. No one has the right to stop a seat from reclining. No one has the right to take up more than one seat unless they pay for it. If you are too fat or your knees hurt buy another seat for your knees or your fat.

Wow.
A mechanical device that prevents you from being able to quickly stow your tray table in case of an emergency. (Gee...Something not mentioned in that “FAA statement”... Airline policy.)

I wonder how fast those things can get a flight cut short and you chucked into jail if you refused to take them off when the flight attendant tells you to.

“But the ad says the FAA states they aren’t illegal.” will get you no where.

Agreed.
You have to be a real jackass cut a flight short.

Lucky for us.
We can just grab a mask...Dial the cabin altitude up... And put everyone to sleep.

First, the clips come off fast, so there's no safety issue, even in "an emergency." Second, as for following crew commands, that's always a good rule.
