You don't remember? A few years ago there was a guy who had a 6.9 sitting in yard or he was parting it out. He didn't know what he had or some story like that. Anycase I asked you to check on the 2.65 for me. Then you told me that he had the car hauled away. At least that's how I remember it.

There is no need to apologize. I am not that finicky.
Yeah, I am glad I grew out of it, which doesn't mean I grew up! Things change.

It would be a long page, if I started listing past cars. There is only 1 that I made a 100 bucks on when I sold it. Curiously, it was my first car a Volvo 122S, the guy who bought it wanted the interior and maybe some other parts.

I went through cars quick, back in Germany, because of the rust and TUV, the technical inspection every car has to go thru every 2 years.
You either fix what they find or you're not gonna drive it anymore. That was always a welcome opportunity to get into another car.

When I was done with my 6.3, I actually drove it back to the main Mercedes Benz location in Munich (Mercedes Benz Hauptniederlassung) and returned it. LOL, that was some fun ...

I always wondered if anyone ever adopted a manual transmission to a 6.9. I'm betting that the 3-speed automatic probably holds the car back from a performance/efficiency perspective. Redline is 5,000 RPM, right? I think that is probably the limiting factor in top speed on this model, as aero is decent and the torque/horsepower is certainly there. I'll bet that a 6.9 with a 2.65 rear and a 5 or 6-speed manual, with overdrive in the upper two gears, would be an honest 150 MPH car.

I think that's been done, but the M-100 engine isn't exactly a featherweight.

Looks like a blast, Tyler! I was raised in a musclecar/gearhead household and have the same appreciation for that badge on the trunklid.

I have a feeling you're going to get addicted to that car.

Big day for the 6.9. Got the alternator back and installed it, replaced the missing chrome strip on the grill, and put on the new hood star.

Oh, and I did one more thing. I can't remember what it is.

I had Bob drive the E500 wagon back to the house while I took the 6.9. We had to do a few tests against the two vehicles. From a dead stop the E500 gets traction better and pulls away pretty fast. With a 15 mph rolling start, the two sit nose to nose all the way to 60. At a 40 mile per hour rolling start the 6.9 pulled away about a car length from the E500 until we stopped at about 100. I couldn't believe it.

Wow good job... now it's a proper mercedes, got its star back.

That sounds like a pretty damn quick car if it can run with an E500. Since its a euro-spec (right?) does it have more power than the US spec?

Yes, it has 36 more HP and 40 more foot pounds of torque than its American version siblings. Apparently since this is a very, very early car as well, (last four digits of VIN literally give production number, mine is #0521) it has even more power than the later euro models. Wiki says it has 286 HP and 405 ft lbs of torque.

It sounds awesome, that's for sure.
