Unfortunately there is indeed duality. The government is certainly corrupt and lots of businesses are corrupt. Unfortunately the people holding the money are the only ones that can get the machine running again. They HAVE money to invest. The government only has a debt that is ever increasing with BO and his boys.

Domestic Capital Investment should get you a tax break, not investing overseas. Ask Rush about that one.

I think that is part of Herman Caine's 9-9-9 proposal. Its a good idea, regardless of who said it first.

NO. NO NO NO

The size of the "pie" is not fixed; it can grow as the economy grows. In the words of JFK, "A rising tide lifts all boats."

Absolutely true, the pie can grow as the economy grows. The problems are that the pie is not growing fast enough and, to the extent it is growing, the increase in the pie is being kept by those that already have more pie than they need.

If they earned it, it's their business as to what they want to do with it. Are you proposing socialism and having them divide it up with others who did NOT earn it?

And the taxes the rest of us paid so they could have a nice little democracy to earn their money in, isn't it time we asked them for some of it back?

The situation looks different from every angle. Sticking with pies, one of the problems is that very few within the population have both the ability and willingness to grow the pie. And whether by coincidence or design, the privileged few navigate the process so as to minimize sharing the pie. I keep ragging on poor Warren Buffet but, really, deduction is voluntary

It seems to me that the educational system and society in general have failed to create pie growers. I appreciate Larry's position that OWS and its offshoots do nothing to grow the pie. Hopefully it helps us understand what needs to be fixed, and determine how to fix it. I'm not going to hold my breath because it's like chasing the flu. Legislation towards parity and equity will always react to pie growers much like the next TSA restriction will be a response to the next attack. And if we manage to corral the pie growers, guess what? The pie stops growing.

It's difficult to concede that there are those that already have more pie than they need. That might be my perception of them. Those folks could and probably should say that everyone else needs to be more enterprising. If wealth is a reflection of how smart, diligent and/or lucky someone is, will we next limit how smart, diligent or lucky someone can be? I can see Larry Ellison complaining to the ACLU that the government won't let him become even richer. "But there's still a couple of miles of Lake Tahoe shoreline I don't own."

We're talking about OPD, 62 homicides so far this year and the vast majority don't have a perp. OPD is one of the most incompetent police depts in the country. Their idea of dispersing a crowd is shoot first ask questions later.

Hey tits! Thanks for the "heads up" on the violence we should come to expect from the OPD if one should want to visit the city...

So...if I want to keep my head on my shoulders and I just happen to see one of Oakland's Worst all "rioted up" and all, then I should turn tail and head for the hills? Right?

OK...so what was Scott Olson's problem? He's out of the service and is hanging with the wrong crowd.

#1.) Good for Scott that he served. Assuming he was an "Honorable Discharge" type of guy...no problem...

#2.) Regardless of the fact of whether he was, or wasn't, a war vet...when cops show up and you're finding yourself within tear-gas canister firing-range, even the best of vets know it's time to get out of range. Seems like Scott must have been a bit of a f***up to forget that much from his training days.

#3.) The best we can get out of this is that it really sucks to be Scott. A real ex-vet would not have been caught in the middle of that fawkfest, or gotten in the path of a fired tear-gas canister, if he wasn't properly attired or weaponized. Two more lessons Olson forgot. Hell, even I remember that if tear-gas is going to be dispensed at a riot, at least a slathering of Vaseline on the face, hair and exposed skin will minimize the discomfort you're going to be enjoying later. Bet Olson had that non-greasy feeling when he was brought in. But then, only his hair-dresser would know for sure...
