People who have a business AND a college education. The two are not mutually exclusive.

This all depends on how you look at it. Everyone I know my age (mid to late 20s) has a job, but we're all getting paid about the same. the people with trade skills are making "good money" when you concider they're not in debt with college loans. but about 50% of the college grads I know are make the same money as the people who did not go to college. so would you still call that "good money" ??

I wouldn't devide the world up into college vs no college, but tecnical vs non technical. the people I know who went to college and got a degree in engineering, medicine or someother SKILLS are having the same sucess as people who work jobs in contruction or automotive repair. The people who went to college and got a degree in libral arts are fighting with the unskilled high school grads for jobs in food service.

Seems to me when the econemy is in the dumps people have to pay for their NEEDS (these are linked to the SKILLS I mentioned above) but are less likely to pay for their WANTS, which are normally linked to libral arts degrees.

I voted for the option that gets as close as possible to "people who actually produce something"...

I would like to think that the days of the "trouble shooter", "consultant" and general BSer are numbered.

I'd like to think that that will be the case. I'm fed up with living in a society full of people who can only talk about a good job.

I based this thread on my own experience. The people that I went to school with that went on to college seemed to be working jobs like Walmart and such. While people that I went to Vocational school seem to be doing really good. Some have their own business like myself.

Interesting thread CLK. I like it.
IMO, in any economy, the people who developed a good work ethic at an early age will excel. I read a study several years ago that with regard to college, success in school sort of ran on a bell curve. The folks that got zero parental help started at the bottom (low success) and the folks that got 100% parental funding were at the other end (also low success rate). In the middle with the greatest success rate were the ones that got some help from the parents but also had to work and provide some of their own support.
Around these parts, a college education is definitely not needed to make a good living. There are many energy related jobs that don't require a degree and pay very well. From an income standpoint, work ethic is more important than education in determining "success". The difference seems to be the college grads wash their hands after they use the restroom instead of before.

Wait, it's an either/or thing?

To think I've been doing both all these years...

People with usefull college degrees, technical stuff like science and engineering will do the best.. Hand workers with trades will do ok but not great. The rest are stuffed.

People that work in advertising; I'm almost working non stop in commercials. On any given day there are at least three commercial sets going on in Downtown Los Angeles alone, the city hasn't been this busy in a long time.

People are making good money again.

I've heard they increase girth and stamina. By the way, did you know there is over five million US dollars waiting for you in a bank account in Nairobi?
