And it wasn't a prolonged blast - more the quick blip-blip that truckers use to signal each other in a passing situation on the interstate - just to say "thanks a LOT, bud".

Actually, I was somewhat impressed - I didn't think anything made by GM these days, especially a boat that size, would accelerate like that.
OK, thats cool.

You should see what kind of a nite-mare unfolds over here across the pond on a continuous basis..not isolated incident basis.

Makes the states look like Romper Room.

That would have been an utter waste - of a good oak tree - wrapping a POS GM product around it.

Thankfully for him, I didn't pass the tangled remains of said DB and his vehicle on the rest of the way home - the old saying about Gawd taking care of babies and fools must have been invoked.

The way some of the DB's that work at that plant drive, they're a literal godsend for the local and state budget - usually around shift change time, there's two to four local or state patrol cars parked at other businesses across the main road in front of that plant - and from casual observation, they're usually quite busy handing out citations.

Funny thing is I had some AH tailgating me who ended up finding the tree when he tried to pass on the shoulder of I-10 a few months back. I stopped and the guy was okay but with a totaled car. The State Trooper who was on the way to pull him over for reckless driving was not amused either.

Just remember that karma is a raging B.

Put it in neutral, let it wind down, then mash the pedal.

I get the tailgating idiots leaving work almost every day. All the way out of the parking garage, through all three lights on the property's driveway, then up the ramp to the highway... THAT'S when I give the old SD full throttle, and when she's cold, she will cough out some smoke...
They always back off. That enables me to merge on the highway with plenty of room

I used to use a variant on bicycle riders who would ride double or triple file up the narrow canyon road where I lived. I woulkd always wait for a safe spot to pass, but would shift my GMC diesel mason dump into 5th at about 30mph, bog it down like crazy, then clutch in and hammer down just as the exhaust pipe was pointed at their lungs. Sometimes it would take the rest of the ride home for me to stop laughing...

I wish that I felt this way when being tailgated. I have to count to ten and then I'm usually okay.

Correct, that is the best part of moving over and letting them speed away. They get far away from me.

I have never encountered a problem feathering the accelerator on a car with no ALDA and an overfueled IP. It drowns them, they think there is something suddenly wrong with your car...They back WAAAAAAAYYY off. It works EVERY time. And again, they do NOT get angry. It wakes them up. Every other method is just begging for confrontation.
The problem with the diesel smoke method is that it adds ammunition to the people who hate diesels, anyway.

Until you have to put it back in gear! (Assuming you are talking about an auto)

Cannot do that on a M/B. They really don't like a drop into gear at speed.

perhaps a merc doesn't do the neutral/wind down method, but there exists another answer to the tailgaiting problem......

Unbeknownst to me, some guy was coming up at what must have been over 90 in an alero, and parked himself RIGHT on my bumper waving all kinds of hand signals. I tapped on the brakes to get him off, but he was so close he slammed on his brakes and almost hit the center barrier. After that, I guess he decided the gloves come off.

When I moved over to let him by, he came within about 2 inches of sideswiping me, and then when he got in front, he STOPPED on the highway, so of course I rear ended him.
You were using the passing lane for its intended purpose and your conduct was correct, except for the brake check. On those rare occasions when I get someone close behind me and no one in front of me, I simply accept that someone is more willing to risk a ticket than I am, and as soon as possible get over to let them by. The up side is that now I have a decoy for the LEO's to get to first so I follow along about a quarter mile behind matching their speed. For those occasions when I have someone on my butt while there are other cars in front of me (happened last week), I generally ignore them.
