I have bought wine and never been asked for ID, at least not for the last 15 years or so. As for the younger people, I would assume that since people can get drugs, guns and who knows what else on the street and your questioning how people with out ID get wine and cigarettes?

Compulsory voting--now there is an idea. No possible downside to that. We round up all the people who don't even know anything about the officials they are voting on, and compel them to choose.
I'd prefer the 30% vote who have some idea of who, what, where, when, and why.

Gaw-ly, in my state you are required to show ID and there's a penalty for trying to buy alcohol without proper ID. I agree that often clerks don't follow the law, even though there is a penalty for them, too. I don't know what the violation rate is but I'll bet it's a lot higher than the conviction rate. Of course, without stats it's hard to tell. Since enforcement is so poor perhaps they should just do away with the attempt to control access to alcohol.

First: They are conspiracy theories.
Second, I'm very impressed that you are so well informed. Probably better informed than most American citizens. I wish Americans were so well informed.
Third, I hate the concept of compulsory voting. It's antithetical to a free, democratic society.

maybe. If it is because of a lack of money to get those who can't afford to get ID, then social services could be provided to alliviate that perhaps. If it is an issue regarding not showing an ID to "the man", well there are deeper roots invoved there and a public awareness campaign could address such an issue. I'd really like to try to understand.

Yes, I think it does really matter.
Some of you guys are as accepting of "some studies" as you mock Christians for their acceptance of the authority of the Bible. That is, indeed, the root--its a matter of authority. You accept "some studies". Many people are a little more critical asking questions about how the studies were done, and who paid for them etc. I would be willing to bet that you could get some studies that reflected exactly what you assume to be true----provided you funded them.

Ditto that.

One problem will be finding credible people with integrity to figure out the solutions. Guys like Abbott who wrote the article in the OP have one goal in mind and it is not to protect the integrity of our elections.

If you'd bother looking at the links you'll see they are not conspiracy theories. It actually happened.
As for compulsory voting, the more conservative a person is, the less likely they will agree to compulsory voting.
They delude themselves into thinking no one but people like them are intelligent enough to vote.
Well you're wrong.
A democracy requires all the people to vote.
The laws affect everyone.
Being lazy or not caring is irrelevant. All citizens should be required to vote, unless they can prove they weren't able to reach a polling station.

Where are the convictions? It didn't happen.
Compulsory anything is anti-freedom.
A democracy requires that all people be free to choose whether to vote.
I agree that laws are for everybody and should be equally enforced, for all. No preferential treatment for anybody, no matter the circumstance.
Being lazy or uncaring is a choice, not an illness to be cured.

They claimed the vote rigging happened through mistakes. Because no one was charged doesn't mean it didn't happen.
In a free society everyone votes.

Lack of evidence is not evidence of a crime.

In a free society, people are free to choose.

We only check ID if the person looks like they might be even close to under age. Most use the guide line that if you look under 30 you ask for ID. When my wife and I were in New Orleans the week before Mardi Gras we were never asked for ID the entire time we were there. I'm 46 and she is 48. I have not been asked for ID since I started turning gray and loosing my hair. That's been at least 15 years or so. Every now and then I get a smart ass server who asks me if I want them to ask me to make me feel better (I give them a bigger tip) but that's as far as it goes.

What is with the black and white extremes? Are there no shades of gray in your world?

Want more people to vote? Don't want to hear those excuses, " I have to work late".

Simple....make election day a national holiday. If they can set aside a day for a plagiarist and serial adulterer they can certainly give us one on which to exercise our sacred franchise.

Is it a burdensome imposition on your right to enter a Bourbon Street titty bar and buy a Singapore Sling and a pack of Camels to ask you for an ID?
