Prove it. Make a political hack comment like that, back it up with truth. If you were to really investigate the problem, you'll find that it isn't at the Federal level, but at how each individual school district manages their finances. I've been involved in two different school districts in my adult life, and can easily show how wasted money is the cause for begging for more money...lack of funding is rarely the culprit.

Its true the R's, in general, are in favor of cutting public education, demonizing teachers in public education, promoting privatising education, and breaking the teachers unions....I can speak with experience about Indiana and from what I see in the news it certainly appears they are doing the same everywhere they can.

Then show it...

Or is this a 'My anecdotal evidence is better than your anecdotal evidence....'

Agreed that there is waste and poor spending decisions, but with that in mind, how can you propose new spending requirements to be paid for by savings from existing allocated money? Isn't that the height of wishful thinking?
I mean, I would love to see it work.... but how bout we try to eliminate the waste and get the academics properly funded and operational before piling on more costs?

Maybe you missed the plank in the platforms of Reagan and Dole to completely abolish the DoED.
Or the GOP mandate to their candidates to promote the dismantling of DoED
"The Federal government has no constitutional authority to be involved in school curricula or to control jobs in the market place. This is why we will abolish the Department of Education, end federal meddling in our schools, and promote family choice at all levels of learning."

Texas cut education by $5.4 billion in 2012.

Teaching the earth is only 6500 years old cuts out a lot of history and science classes.

What I was attempting to show is that the present Administration that got re-elected was quick to speak up about a Gun Ban but when they had the chance to do better also short changed School Security.

The Reupblicans did the same but are less likely to look to a Gun Ban as a slolution to School Security.

I am supposed to be a Democrat; but what I see is that the Republicans want to cut the Federal Funding and leave that Funding up to the States.
That could be a good or bad thing depending on the State you live in.

If you live in a small State that does not have much revenue it would hurt education let a lone School Security.

I just haven't seen the present administration say anything about a gun ban....

Can you suggest somewhere I can find information regarding this"Obama Gun Ban"....

Not sure what those Social Security apples are doing in this box of Gun Control oranges....

Leaving all education funding up to the states has many problems.
Utah will not spend money, despite poor academic achievement, just ask JP.
How well will their kids do if a bunch of the small pie gets reallocated to gun toting security?

I'm all for trained resource officers in schools. In my experience though, the reality is different than the concept. In my school, our resource officer was an on-duty sheriff's deputy assigned by the county. While I can't verify this, the ones the county sent us always looked like sort of, I don't know, schlubs; like ones who maybe couldn't quite pass the two mile run part of the physical, or maybe just barely qualified at the range. Nice guys and gals, but not necessarily people I would care to entrust the life of my kids to when push comes to shove.
In addition, their presence was at the whim of our understaffed county sheriff, and whenever there was a need elsewhere, they got called off campus. I can think of many more instances when their presence would have made a difference than when it actually did, and my school is a calm little country K-8 with 300 kids.
If this is going to be a plan that actually works it's going to have to be absolutely mandatory that the finest officers, who actually WANT and know HOW to deal with kids, teachers and parents in addition to being trained in crisis situations are placed on PERMANENT, INVIOLABLE duty on campus.

The thing about .40 cal is that most pistols that chamber it are polymer frame and very light. This makes the recoil seem more vigorous. A 1911 .45 throws a bigger chunk of lead down range with a bit more energy, but the weight of all that steel dampens the recoil rather a lot.

virtually every state has a cash cow that they could siphon funds from to pay for public school security: the public university athletic system. Let schools build fewer new fieldhouses and stadiums and kick a little money back to help kids survive.

Private schools could include security costs in the tuition feees

I believe you will find that tapping athletic funds is more of a third rail than cutting SS and Medicare. it won't happen.

quite the shame. it adds nothing to the intellectual experience at a university and should at least have some responsibility in helping fund school security or other projects. Its hard to beleive that so much money is made by schools in perpetuating what are basically children's games. the rabid fascination with sports in America perplexes me.
