Diesel is evil... tax it! tax it!

Central Valley Business Times

I really wish that Toyota and Honda had built their smug-mobiles using diesel engines. Then, perhaps, we wouldn't have an extra quarter percent added onto our fuel bill.

For even more confusion, I mean information.

California is really run by a bunch of idiots isn't it, just like most of this country.

Go ahead and increase the tax on the fuel that makes it possible for your hybrids and plug in cars to be delivered, fueled, and towed in when you run out of juice...

Idiots...

America's Oil Export Problem (Yes, Export) - Forbes.com

Ya confusion. This topic is writhe. Ever wonder about that nonsense that USers don't want diesel cars? Ever try to talk a VW salesman out of one?

I heard a story from a woman a few weeks ago about a relative who moved his business from California to Texas strictly because of the high taxes. She told me he saved a bundle simply by moving to Texas.

This depends on where you move to in Texas. Since there is no state income tax the state is run by sales taxes. These are the same all over the state.

But from city to city there can be vast differences. Some cities charge 1% less in sales tax. The cities that do charge it get the tax money sent back to them by the state, and those that do not charge it normally have higher property taxes. As in much, much higher property taxes.

The cities that don't charge the 1% are normally where you will find a lot of big ticket sellers, like car dealers, and this saves you 1% on the price of a new car.

Some cities have no property taxes on homes but these cities have higher taxes on businesses. No city charges any property tax on a Church, so some cities don't allow churches to be built without a special permit.

In short: Taxes in Texas are complicated, but with a bit of research you can work the system to work for you and not the other way around. Over the long run a little bit of research can pay off big.

And since this is the first of a new year a lot of laws and tax regulations from city to city might change, so make sure if you are planning on a move such as this your research is current.

In Texas diesel is taxed at .20 cents a gallon.

In Oklahoma diesel is taxed at .13 cents a gallon.

If you have Oklahoma plates on your diesel truck you can, and likely will be, pulled over and asked to show your receipt for diesel fuel purchased in Texas. If you do not purchase diesel in Texas you can be taxed, at a rate of .20 cents per gallon, on every gallon your fuel tank is estimated to be holding.

Used to be that tax information was posted right on the pumps so everyone knew how much they were paying. Then the politicians decided we consumers shouldn't have that information so readily available. It's along the same lines of the mystery cable, phone, electric "fees" and weekly payroll deductions.

I just filed my quarterly International Fuel Tax Assoc. for commercial vehicle fuel use. CT's diesel tax rate is $0.512/gal.! Compare that to our fellow New Englanders-MA $0.21/gal., ME $0.312/gal., NH $0.18/gal., RI $0.32/gal. and VT $0.29/gal.

Question. Why do you care to know? So what if they tell you $10 or $0.10? What does it mean to you? A few years ago the governor of WI "borrowed" some of the money from it to pay for something else. So when we paid the road tax, we were actually paying for something else. The numbers are only meaningful if they reflect what the money being collected is used for and not what they are said to be used for.

Most of New England is just as bad as CA.

Except NH, they are the Live free or die state!

Just in case you guys missed it here's what is kind of happening (perhaps) over here

For how much longer will they let us drive our old diesels?

Could this be your future?

The federal government will assume whatever power the people allow it to assume. We have been, for the past 50 years, in a mood to let the government run an increasing amount of our lives. I see no reason to believe this trajectory is altered.

You can't ask for goodies without giving up control of your life. You have to pick one end and run with it. I'd like to stay with Mom & Dad and mooch off them. I can't complain when they start to give me orders and run my life if I want to keep sucking on their teat.
