"Watching The Wheels"

People say I'm crazy doing what I'm doing,
Well they give me all kinds of warnings to save me from ruin,
When I say that I'm o.k. they look at me kind of strange,
Surely you're not happy, boy, now you no longer play the game,

People say I'm lazy ... dreaming my life away,
Well they give me all kinds of advice designed to enlighten me,
When I tell them that I'm doing fine, watching shadows on the wall,
Don't you miss the big time, boy, you're no longer on the ball?

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round,
I really love to watch them roll,
No longer riding on the merry-go-round,
I just had to let it go,

People asking questions lost in confusion,
Well I tell them there's no problem,
Only solutions,
Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I've lost my mind,
I tell them there's no hurry...
I'm just sitting here doing time,

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round,
I really love to watch them roll,
No longer riding on the merry-go-round,
I just had to let it go.

~~John Lennon

Do you have any data to back that up? Earlier in the thread I asked questions about such statistics and never got any answers. I never made any statements about whether it was or wasn't a factor either.

Larry, I was trying to joke about this a ways back, I'm guessing it had no effect on you. If you are really interested in an answer to your question, you could search for it yourself. I did just now:

Marijuana use up, meth use down, says study of illegal drugs

Quote:
How's the war on drugs going? A new government survey on illegal drugs says pot use is up but use of methamphetamine and cocaine is trending downward.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that pot use rose among Americans aged 12 and older from 5.8 percent in 2007 to 6.9 percent in 2010. That's 17.4 million American teens and adults.

The survey, conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), also showed methamphetamine user rates have plummeted by nearly half, from 731,000 users in 2006 to 353,000 in 2010. Cocaine use also dropped from 2.4 million users in 2006 to 1.5 million in 2010.

Overall, however, illicit drug use is slightly up, from 8.7 percent of the population in 2009 to 8.9 percent in 2010.
I suspect that an accurate answer to your question is not available as pot use is more widespread than meth use and it would be hard to know if the general rebelliousness that could lead someone to use pot would have led them to try meth even if pot had not been available.

There is no clear line of causation, despite some people's desire to see one.

An equally relevant question would be 'How many people end up smoking weed as a result of their meth addiction?'

The only common factor between them is that they are illegal drugs.
Do people who abuse prescription drugs have their start in smoking weed?
Is Rush a midnight toker?

One point that has been raised here, is that the two substances provide very different effects, so it would be hard to imagine that a user of weed would move to meth, as it would be a completely different result.

What might actually happen is that people who are bent on illegal activity will try both (and a host of other things) because they are illegal.

If one were truly interested in establishing a 'gateway' drug, then they need look no further than tobacco and alcohol. Research clearly shows that they are king.

I've had several bad experiences from edibles. Easy to imbibe too much. There is supposedly no lethal dose of pot but I experienced some dosage action that was way past what I wanted. Had me in misery for about 8 hours each time.

Smoking isn't good for you, I get it but it offers a pleasant, reliable way to regulate your experience.

A sincere and friendly suggestion. If your life is such that you need an escape, shouldn't you be seeking to solve the problem, rather than masking it with self medication?

Best of luck with it.

Why is it immediately an escape?

At the very LEAST, you should have put out that cigarette and tossed away your empty "Bud Light" beer can before you say things like that.

Well, the problem with that is that I haven't smoked a cigarette since May or June of 1971, and have had one beer in the last ten years or so, probably not over a case of beer in 40 years.
