Or did the article mean that it reduced the number of People becoming new Addicts?

If it can be shown that the approach being tried in Portugal is more effective at bringing about improvement in the drug addiction phenomenon than prison sentences than perhaps the prison time thing is what is wrong.

I haven't been drunk since I was in the Army over 42 years ago. Except for a German beer that I enjoyed with German food about a year ago, I haven't consumed any alcohol of any kind in over ten years.

Even so, does the fact that we already have an untold number of alcoholics make it a good idea to add an untold number of junkies? Yeah, that right there is some great logic. sounds like some more druggy logic.

Not sure about this and I could be wrong, but I believe we already have a lot of junkies. Sticking them in the cooler hasn't worked. This is not a reason to continue doing so.

More importantly, who owns your body?

The unwillingness to learn and to advance ones base of knowledge is tragic.

But all to common.

The US would NEVER adhere to such policies because those with interests in Private Prisons will NEVER allow it. They are part of a large group of scumbag lobbyists who pay 100s of millions of dollars annually for the closed-door meetings where bribes take place, money exchanges hands and it is kept out of the public spotlight. I'm an occasional social drinker. I've been known to drink to the point impairment but generally no further than that. I've also gone months without a drink and never felt the need to. I dabbled with pot in HS and college, wasn't really my thing. I'd politely take a toke, or four, and pass it on to the folks that really enjoyed it. Although I'm not opposed to it, it's probably been 20 years since I've partaken.

It sounds like a pretty rational approach to me.

I don't think I've approached druggy status. Or have I?

We already have junkies. People with certain proclivities know where to get what they "need."

Junkies that are LESS likely to seek treatment than if drugs were legal since the consequences of admitting to drug use can involve prison and a criminal record.

I think a LOT of people didnt read past the threads title before commenting, and therein lies the problem. Take off the blinders, things cant get much worse, , , the gospel according to 'Reefer Madness'!
