Smile Happy news for me today

I got some very good news today! I'm interested in studying mechanical engineering in college, and we applied to four engineering schools with MechE programs. Today we heard back from the first one -- a state school 15 minutes from us, UMass Lowell, the state school in the area known for engineering. I was accepted and given a renewable scholarship that would reduce my tuition to pennies. This is very welcome news, as I'm highly suspicious of the idea of amassing any debt and this would definitely provide a debt-free path through a decet school . Of course, I would still wait to hear from other schools before making any decisions, but it's very nice to know that a good option is already at hand.

I'm kinda happy right now and having trouble settling down (and also using too many smilies ).

Stay this way your whole life and you will do fine.

Congratulations, set your goals way out there because the ones close in are easy to get to.

I won't lose it if I wait (I have until May 1st to accept), so might as well wait and see what else comes in. That said, I had already been seriously considering going there for a bachelor's when I thought I'd have to pay $12,000 per year -- this makes me even more inclined to do so. I'll probably decide sometime in early April where to go, depending on what schools accept me and what sort of aid they give.

Very good news! My youngest son just got his ME this past May and is already working as a design engineer at a local (to him) company. ONe point in your decision: When youngest was in school he often had issues that could have been solved quickly and easily at home but being a couple hundred miles away required mcuh effort. More than once I shipped him parts for his 126. Failed voltage regulator/alternator diagnosis and repair took over a week and I had to ship a whole alternator to him. Any illness was also an issue. Not to mention when the $$$ ran low, eating became more interesting. There are advantages to living at/near home.
