I just briefly looked at "unspeakable" in You tube and some of those video have several million views. That is money. That potentially is a lot of money. You tube is a bizarre concept which I am still trying to wrap my head around. There are people who have made millions off their videos. If their brother finds a 'gimic' that he can trade on, the sky is the limit.

I stumbled upon one vid that was posted 3 days ago about how to build a farm in a game. The vid has over 700k views already. An extreme hide and seek (no idea and I did not watch) is 2 weeks old and had 5 million views.

Aren't those gamer guys the ones we recruit to fly our drones?

You mean You Tube does more than show me how to change my cabin filter?

Who knew?

No, the real drones are flown by pilots with instrument ratings. They have to be instrument rated in order to be adequately competent to keep their drones away from other aircraft. ATC coordinates drone flight just like any other. I am not speaking of the little helicopter drone that your grandkids got for Christmas.

If these kids were industrious and focused enough to be pilots it would be quite different.

That puts a surprisingly different framework around it. Amazing how these kids can make money doing this silly stuff. Says something about whoever is paying for it.

Just a wild guess but I would bet your parents gen said the same thing about Hot Rods, electronics of all kinds (CD/DVD/Walkman/VHS/Head Phones....). Every generation does weird chit compared to the previous. A friend of mine is turning in to an 'influencer' (look it up.. to long to explain here). She is young, cute as a button, very well spoken with the written word and very photogenic. She buys stuff on amazon, reviews it and posts links. Now Amazon has designated her an influencer or something and she gets credit when people follow her links.

The internet is where the money seems to be at. Better or worse, that is the way it is going.

Automation is arriving in quantity in the not too long distant future. It may impact jobs similar to what the establishment of the computer did. I find it interesting that the job losses it created has never been much of a subject.

It to me seems very hard to pin down just what employment will look like in the years to come. Some of the trades will still exist and currently can pay decently. A problem I notice is many are getting more complex all the time to learn.

I had a young fellow ask me how he can invest a thousand dollars to make some money. I suggested he consider buying and selling as the probable path to a larger quicker return. At the same time warning him you have to think about how to do it.

That was my thought as well. Kid created something that others clearly enjoy. I think that is fantastic, and it might just be a side gig anyways.

Kids are different these days. They are different from kids 10 years, 20 years, 30 etc etc. A lot of the more fundamental stuff like creativity, passions, etc are there but take different paths than us olds are used to. Whatever takes a bit of creativity and cleverness is a-ok in my book.

I’m guessing that means kids don’t play cowboys and Indians with water pistols anymore.

I think Andrew Yang is addressing this idea with a guaranteed income or something like that.

Not to be rude Barry, but you’re a little late. I retired three years ago from a career mostly in automation and controls. I’ve seen tons of different processes successfully automated for years. The peak was in the eighties through the 2000’s. The bad news is that many low paying jobs were lost. The good news was that many higher paying jobs developing and maintaining the systems were gained.

It was also was a great ride that netted me a comfortable retirement.

Used to be that a typical office had clerks/secretaries and high level workers doing the brain work of whatever was done.

The clerks are gone. The boss has an administrative aid to do what the private secretaries did, which is now mostly screening for the boss, distributing his/her stuff, and carrying out various tasks. The higher level workers handle their own correspondence now.

Having been in the middle of it while it was transitioning, I was very happy to not hand my work over to the typists, and word process my writing until I got it exactly the way I wanted it.

Post The Help

I remember when the C.O.L.A. got rid of the secretaries, oops typists, oops, data entry clerks, oops secondary office staff, I had to learn a whole new set of computer skills and I'm a Mechanic, not really computer savvy .

I was O.K. with work smarter not harder but towards the end it was a lot of extra crap I didn't really comprehend .
