A friend of mine makes a home-brewed IPA from largely home-grown ingredients. He has a beer-making facility built into the basement of his home in the foothills. Awesome beer.

Most anything from Big Rock Brewery of Alberta, non-pastuerized and additive free. Their 7% McNally's Irish Ale is outstanding!
Also, Race Rocks Ale. Only available as draft on Vancouver Island, I understand its a cure for seasonal affectiveness disorder :p Whenever we travel, I try to order the local beer. Enjoyed Polygamy Porter in Utah. Their motto...why have just one? ![]()

Beer is Back!
I just recently returned from several days working in the vicinity of Polson, MT. After work my host took me to the "Glacier Brewing Company" (http://www.glacierbrewing.com/brewery.html) in Polson. We filled a growler with Golden Grizzly Ale and another with North Fork Amber, but had a glass of the Slurry Bomber Stout while talking to one of the guys who works there. Then we had an early taste of their Oktoberfest beer (just decanted but unfiltered and uncarbonated so not yet for sale). I can't recall its name (small wonder), but it is really good and worth a drive from Missoula, (unless you're already in a bar in Missoula and drinking from one of the many really good offerings there). The stout was above average but the amber was the best of all. I dang near polished-off the growler on my own.
In every glass of local beer I had, the beer was excellent. I hope that I get a chance to visit again and stay-over an extra couple of days just to pub crawl Missoula. If you live there, you are way, way too lucky. |

Asahi Super Dry - Japan
Löwenbräu Original - München, Deutchland Mikes Mild Ale - Taranaki, NZ Tiger - Singapore Chimay - Belgium Gisborne Gold - Gisborne, NZ and many others.. My theory is that there are too many good beers in the world to drink bad beer. It's always good to try new things too.. And by the way, very few real NZers drink Steinlager.. Skullsplitter is another excellent beer.
Yesterday at a "private" crawfish boil hosted by friends, (900 lbs! 7 competing cooking teams!) I drank the first wheat beer that I ever really liked. In fact, I drank 5-6 of them. Thank goodness for designated drivers. Anyway, its a domestic (USA) from Blue Moon Brewery. The slightly corianderish flavor of the beer perfectly balanced the firey-spiceness of crawfish. C'est ce bon, cher! |

I live in the hometown of Labatt's Blue.
London, Ontario takes its Labatt's seriously. I love to support it out at the bar. It is a quality, balanced, full bodied pilsner that is unpretentious, even tough to beat. I have to say that Labatt's brewery is well taken care off. There is a large garage across the street from the main brewery (Richmond Street south of Horton) in which all the trucks are maintained and stored (even the one remaining famous streamliner). I have to say that there is a level of pride there not seen often times today. It makes me smile and appreciate what they do. Anyone visiting Toronto must give Steamwistle clear pilsner a try. Especially in the summer, you will not find a more refreshing beer, on tap or in a bottle. Why is it though, that when I'm at the pub with the boys and we all order our plates (2 piece halibut or cod and chips), that we all call for a pint of Guiness in the winter? I good "stout" sure can be enjoyable too. -Mike McKinney

Directors bitter- tradional ale; full-bodied amber 'fart' beer
![]() Badger Brewery 'Fursty Ferret' - lighter but flavourful ale-& 'Tanglefoot' - similar but a bit heavier. Guiness (a meal in a glass) Yuengling Black & Tan (porter/lager) and Lager, one decent American brewer and local for me. My wife is partial to a few pints of strongbow zider when in the UK. Indian Kingfisher beer is pretty good too, great for washing down a madras ![]() glad no-one's mentioned Coors light, you might as well drink water...

Is it weird to not like beer? Cause I sure can't stand beer. Give me a bottle of vodka or scotch/bourbon or cognac any day.
