My 76' lived in "dry" Southern California for its entire life and the passenger footwells were rusted out so I would second keeping it garaged all winter if it's worth keeping.

The RPM's would be better suited for dead flat terrain but you'd be very slow off the line and you'd have to go down to 3rd or even 2nd on some of the rather long uphill grades.
