More Problems with Kuhmo

I installed a set of Kuhmo Solus tires on my wife's Lexus and, since I never really drive the car, didn't know how bad the vibration was until months later. I had the tires road force balanced with...

E320 Buying Advice Please

I'm looking to buy a used E320 in the $9,000 to $15,000 range, probably something between a 2001 and 2006 and have a few questions:

1.Are there any years that are better than others?

2. What...

I would check the tensioner shock absorber first. It has rubber bushings at the ends that wear out and cause a rattle that can be heard at idle. The shock is not too difficult to replace.

I agree that is probably the head gasket leaking.

I had the same problem with my 1988 260e. I put off replacing the head gasket for two years after discovering that I could stop the leak by...

Important Update!

I'm sorry, but I described the taper incorrectly in my last post.

The taper must be on the cylinder side so as you slide in the tool, it pushes it compresses the spring retainer. I'm looking at...

Tool

The tool for removing the cylinder needs to have a bevel on it. I used a piece of metal coat hanger and filed a nice long bevel. A bike spoke might be too hard to file, but a grinder would probably...

EHA Valve?

Just to throw another possibility out there: My '88 260 would hesitate badly in cold weather. Start up was fine, but as the coolant temp went up and the engine controls went to closed loop,...

Chrome Tips

Forgot to include this on my last post.

I added stainless steel tips to my replacement muffler very inexpensively and really dressed it up. I found a short piece of stainless steel exhaust pipe...

I'm really interested in hearing how the conductive paint works on repairing the airflow sensor pot.

I see that I was having a problem back in 2003 when I replaced the sensor pot in my 260e. That...

If the door switch isn't the source of your problem, I would suspect the alternator brushes are worn down and not making good contact. The fact that your battery isn't charging properly points in...

If I remember correctly, my Haynes manual has a way to test the leakdown of the cam followers. The problem is you must remove them and test them all individually. It seems easier to just replace them.

The M103 has small hydraulic "lifters", attached to the rocker arms. Over time they wear slightly and will cause a ticking noise on startup. The noise should disappear after 5 seconds or so. It the...

Removing Drain Plug

Vise grips are worth a try to remove the stripped drain plug. I had one that was so rounded-off that I had to use a small pipe wrench to remove it.

Make sure to have a replacement plug on hand...

Upper Timing Cover

When I bought my '88 260e I knew it was leaking oil - hence the cheap price. As it turned out the only leak was the upper timing cover and I fixed it for less than $25.

It's not too difficult as...

I had the idle air valve fail on an old Volvo while on a trip and fixed it with a pair of vice-grips pinched onto the air hose.

Sometimes you have to improvise.
