Seem being the operative word

Judging by the condition of the front seats, I'd say the milage is above 250k, maybe well above. The odometers on these cars are problematic. My opinion is that the beginning bid is too high. The...

Most Anywhere?

If that includes Knoxville, TN. I can fix you up with an 80 TD with a good body, glass, decent palamino interior, crappy dash. Pretty much all there except a few minor pieces, no head light...

I can relate

Last Christmas I told my wife that I was going to go out back and turn on the emergency flashers on all the cars in the back yard.

As usual, she failed to see the humor, go figure.

Looks Good!

After you've had a chance to drive it a while, let us know if it was basically as presented. I'd say that's a decent $1900 car.

Another Easy Fix

Thanks to this site! I had no turn signals this am in the '84, all fuses were fine, figured I'd have to buy a relay. So, I did a search on this forum, and found a recomendation to take apart and...

Rust

Look for rust, in wheel wells, bottom inside of doors, around jack points, and here's a good one, behind the battery, you'll have to pull it. If there's no rust there, that is a good sign. A/C,...

Welcome

Milage wise the turbo D should be getting 26 - 29 mpg. tranny/electrical/engine wise they are pretty much bullet proof. Other items can prove niggling though. There is a wealth of info on this site....

There is another Possibility

Some people don't realize that the ODO is turning slow, sticking, etc. When I bought my '84, I asked the guy twice about the ODO, he was sure that it was fine. I soon noticed that it was turning...

Yes.

My wife wants me to send it to the crusher. I'm sorry, but I refuse to crush a German car, esp. a TD! (+ they will only give $100)

Intake Filter/Terminal Velocity Test

I followed the thread last week on the KN filter deal, thought I'd try a crude test. On my '84 sedan, 250k + well maintained miles. Uncorked the turbo by removing the entire intake assy., found a...

I didn't see the reasoning

Dimaler Chrysler had a bad financial report, mention Smart as a drag, just canned their CEO, stock shot up immediately. That would make you feel good if you were the CEO.

Anyway, good article...

I was just reading that Smart is a big financial loser. May not be viable much longer.

Can you say shafted?

So you're selling this brand new '85 MB. You drive it into an open area to take photos, the last thing you do as you get out is punch the trip odo to zero it?

I'd bet that the trip odo is inop.,...

Symptoms?

Just wondering, what prompted you to suspect the monovalve, was it hot air blowing out of the vents with the setting on cold?

Whats Wrong With GM?

Evidently, the company is managed by a bunch of what I'd call non-car people. They put a woman in charge of Oldsmobile, and look what happened. The oldest automobile name in America, gone. It' a damn...

79 300TD vs 84 300D

I've got both and at least on my cars I can say that the 79TD seems a bit more lively from a dead start. I believe that the gear ratio on the non turbo is a little lower. Plus, it isn't trying to...

Just reread the above posts. I'm pretty sure thers no aux. water pump. The part about outside air vents being stuck open sounds like that describes the vent thing. Thanks, I'll check that out.

79 Model gage

I should have specified that. The gage reads in F, not C. I first thought of the thermostat, but wondered if the heat coming from the center vents going cold, while the side vents were warm was some...

Why is this beast so cold?

This thing is running colder than a Mother-in Laws heart! I drive about 20 mi. to work, highway speed, and the temp gage hardly moves off the bottom (maybe 125 deg). Heater blows somewhat warm air...

Looking for a site

Or advice on how to remove the steering wheel on a 97 Chevy pick up. I'd rather not catch an exploding air bag in the chest while I'm at it. Tried search engines, no luck.

Any help would be most...

Half Shafts Ain't Cheap, Go Used?

For my '84 300D, the cheapest I've found is $200 for a rebuilt. So I'm wondering, while they are easy to replace, I've got an adversion to laying under a car on jack stands any more than I have to....

I'd like to have that!

But then, my taste in autos are a little strange. I really like the 4 speed column shift. The only other one I can remember was on a Saab Sonnet. Pretty cool.

3 Seconds!

I would think full pressure in three seconds would be about as fast as if it were new. Previously, I was wondering if the gage could be sticking for a few seconds. I know on my fuel gage, I have to...
