Happy New Year all and many blessings to the fine staff of this web site that offer so much to us DIY'rs of the Nth degree of in/competence?! (LOL)

This unusal Texas winter has gotten me really sparked up. As an electrician I hate getting bit and this static spark with nice 3/8" long blue streaks are getting old!!!! Any ideas from you techies out there about static drain methods? I've thought of using ground wire (braid type) for the C280 and my F-150. By bolting to a metal connection and letting it just touch the pavement. My thoughts are that the frame would be at the same potential as the ground and thus drain off the static. Any and all comments welcomed!! Br-r-r-r LH

Ground straps...

...I remember seeing those things when I was a kid in the early seventies...I thought is was just a fad...seemed like every big car had two of those things attached to the 200lb chrome bumper, it plain view for everyone to see. Hah!
I'd try to hide it somewhere near the rear axle...come to think of it, I think I saw some on sale at a larger Auto parts store, give a few of them a call and see if they carry them....you might be 'shocked' and amazed.
I hope you didn't find that pun too reVOLTing.

I'd suggest you choose a stylish, anti-static wardrobe.

Polyesters, nylons and wools will quickly build up a static charge, while cotton won't. I find I get zapped most when I scoot over the seat. The woolen longhandles rub inside the polyester leisure suit and build up a charge.

When I reach the edge of the seat, I touch the metal door handle, which is attached to the car frame, and transfer my charge to the mass of the car body before my feet hit even the ground.

Hanging static wires may not be the best solution because:
a) You might look like an old hot-rodder
b) Draining charge from the car to the ground makes room for more.
