Anyone ever change the speakers in a w201 ?

Hey,

1985 190D 2.2 5-speed manual

Did any of you guys ever change the terrible speakers that came stock in the w201 models ? If so can you please let me know which ones actually fit ? Anywhere I look lists a few different sizes so I don't want to be doing the wrong thing.

Any type of help is appreciated.

Kamil

Boston Acoustics FX-4 are a direct replacement for the dash and rear panel. Sound is excellent, but don't expect bass from such small drivers. I cut the rear deck panel at the rear speaker locations and mounted a pair of Polk separates, 6.5" woofers and surface-mount tweeters. Xovers installed beneath the metal deck, in the trunk for access to controls. I lost no luggage space and sound is great, first aid kit intact. No cutting of metal required, just drilling a few holes.

Really, tho, this post belongs in the 'Car Audio' forum.

They fit, front & rear, with no mods and original grilles. A bit of a tight squeeze in the dash. Sound is dramatically better, but the original Becker radio/cassette sucked - no volume. Almost any new head unit you install will be better. Most will require you disable or rewire the console fader. I rewired ours to fade only the back.

I checked the model of the speakers I recently put in the back, 6.5" woofers, tweeters, and xovers: Polk dx3065 system. Pic attached.

nice thanks...

I just bought all my stuff and this is what I got:
(just waiting for it all to arrive)

Bottom line is: spend a few extra bucks and get quality speakers. I have read other threads where people were buying 20 dollar speakers

RADIO/CD PLAYER (with remote)
I got this radio for 75 bucks shipped...I had the same one before in my other car but I sold the car. You cannot go wrong with this radio-it looks so so good.

Front Speakers:
Boston Acoustics S45
80 bucks shipped to my door. These speakers received great reviews from what I have read on the internet.

Rear Speakers:
Polk Audio db 650
100 bucks shipped to me. Awesome reviews on crutchfield.com Polk speaker review

I got my 6.5 polk speakers from Ebay. They were around $130.00 on crutchfield and I got them on ebay for $35.00. Although they are diminishing, there are still some deals to be had on ebay
