Has anyone had experience changing the window channels on the 123 cars? Mine are so worn that the windows (driver and passenger side front) rattle and there is wind noise at highway speeds. I did this job years ago on a manual window MB, and I don't recall it being all that difficult, but I wonder if there are things I should be aware of before I start on one with power windows. Any help would be appreciated. My car is a 1979 300TD (station wagon). I am assuming that the windows need to be loosened, possibly removed, to complete this task. Am I right? Thanks.

I'm talking about the rubber channel in which the window slides up and down--it is a single piece that includes the top section of the window in which the window rests when it is as its top most position. Don't follow what you're talking about. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I've done the same type of work on w123's with manual and power windows. Your assumptions are correct about loosening and possibly removing the windows. I never took any special precautions for the power windows. Since you said you've done it before, it should be a easy job. Good luck.

Extra hand

Joseph, I remember watching a mechanic replace my driver side window motor (w123).
He did it by himself, methodically.
Remember the set up and lay it down
in such fashion as to be able to reassemble
without goof ups.
I did have to lend a hand in holding the window
up when it came time to line it into the
'support rail'. That was one of those irritating
aspects. If it does not set right, then you
end up going back and forth, quite methodically, but can get one hot under the collar.
I realize this is a very general anectdote.
I wish I could be more detailed in the parts
descriptions, but me is tired.
If ya have a good memory, great. Make a sketch for
re-install reference (or digital pic).
It saves me all the time with DIY jobs.
Good Luck.

Moraine,

I have a 300CD and would like to replace old window trim that has some cracks. How much will I need to spend to 1) buy all necessary window stripping and 2) have it installed?

Any general advice on what should be replaced and what to watch out for? The rubber trim that goes from bottom edge of front corner post accross top of both front and read windows is quite an imposing piece. I worry that whoever does the job won't get it right.

Thanks,

Nic
