Looking to buy a 2.2 190D with 230K Auto trans and well taken care of. Any thing to look for in particular? How long before engine or tranny rebuild? Seems solid, 1200 bucks too much to pay? Thanks!

That seems to be the price that I see for these. I don't know much about them, except that there is not much power. Given that, they likely live for a long time, much like 240D's do. Check out the Diesel topics or search the archives for blow-by. When the engine is totally warmed up, (I have been told), you don't want to see much smoke emitted from the oil fill hole. Look to see how dirty the engine compartment is as well. Lots of soot, sludge and oil is a bad sign.

I never heard of a 190D 2.2

I do know of the 190D 2.0 and 2.5 but never heard of the 2.2!

Is it a mistake in the typed number or is it a real existing engine in the W201?

greetingz,

There is in fact a 2.2. My friend has one with 400,000+ miles and it just runs and runs and runs and runs...

My MB Buyers Guide says that the 2.2 has 72 horsepower and is quite sluggish in acceleration. Mileage is often over 40mpg. It was the first MB to have an engine encapsulation system to decrease noise. Displacement was raised to 2.5L which is an improvement to 93hp.
