Dynalow, the plugs are clean after 5000 miles. I changed them short after I bought the car. But because they are the HR9DC with resistor I changed them again two days ago against non-resistor ones according to many recommendations I read in this site.

Benz, I live in Dallas Metroplex. Actually the car I bought was from California. I must say the car looks in the pix more beautiful than it is, perhaps the pix have been made by professional photographer, specialized in presenting the best of the cars. But in real life it is also nice to look at.

Suginami, yes the color name is almadine red, code 512. The interior code is 275, I don't kwow for sure what the name is, maybe beige or pebble, it is a shade more beige than in the photos, which came out almost white.

I hope that Jim is right about the car will last long. At the moment I am looking at a bit of oil leak.

What is the color code or name of the color.
I didn't think that Almandine Red was avaialble in 1989 for the 300CE.

My Benz color chart refers to color code #512 as Cabernet Red

Regardless, I agree, it is a beautiful color.

Hi dynalow,

the side panel molding is very contrasting to the body paint, is eye-catching and head turner . Looks like you have the same interior as mine, pebble 275?

Thanks Tex,

I don't kow what the formal names or codes are, but yes, out interiors do look the same. I once heard my color referred to as garnet, and I have been calling it that ever since. I don't know what MB formally calls it tho. Garnet has a little ring of class to it.

BTW those pics were taken when I bought the car in FL. 12/91
(Joisey ain't got no palm trees )
Since it's been garaged it's whole life, the paint and the car look the same today.
And, yes, these coupes are head turners.
I do a lot of eye flirtin going down the road!
Course, they are so rare, they stick out like a sore thumb. Don't let it be seen in places it (and you) shouldn't be ...

You don't drive the car at all? j/k

I have had my car only 4 months. I detail it almost every week, each time discovering some new albeit tiny scratches and wondering where they came from. Of course mine is also in the garage at home.

My wife is a tax accountant. I have not "seen" her in a couple of months.

When I bought my Euro lights the guy at the store said he had been looking for a coupe for some time and couldn't find one.

He asked me if I knew of one for sale, to let him know.

Oh yes I certainly drive it. It had 41 on it when I got it and now has 92. I put 10,000 a year on it.It is the only auto I have. I do have a pickup truck that is my weather beater.
I meant it's garaged at night and on bad weather days.
Sadly, I had to take it out in the snow this year.

And can you imagine, I actually had to replace the resonator and muffler assembly last week. The original only lasted 18 years ?

Jim,

at the moment I love driving my 300CE so much that I can easily put 20K/year on it at this pace. We have two cars; under the week my better half and I drive to work separately. But when we go out together weekends I always take the Benz and not the other car, knowing that it is more exposed to the weather and alas to grits on the streets than if it is garaged.

PS. 12/91 at 41K, now 92K that makes 51K in 15 years = 3.7K a year or am I wrong?

PPS. Later on: yours has 192K now, right? 151 in 15 years, that would fit.

Euro lights are my next project, the square stock headlights are an eyesore.
Can I disconnect/remove the headlight wipers without interfering with some circuit. How did you do that?

You are correct. I am wrong. Way too much happening today.

I bought the car in 2001, not 1991. my goof.
It had 41,000 in 2001. I have put the 50,000 on it in 5+ years.
(not counting it's voyage home fm FLA on the Auto Train. )

If you install Euro headlights you need to disconnect the headlight wipers, they will not fit in with the Euro headlights (the mounting holes/brackets, at the bottom of the headlight assemblies are in different locations).

All you need to do is take out the pump for the h/l washers (see, there are two pumps located at the bottom/front of the washer fluid reservoir) and place a plug where the pump used to be. You can buy the plugs at your local MB dealer. I'd suggest buying 2 or 3 plugs. First, you may mess up the plug when you are installing it (for some reason they are tricky). Second, the plugs often fail, so it is nice to have a couple as spare. They are fairly cheap. BTW wait until the fluid in the reservoir has cooled before yo do this job. As you know, Benz in its infinite wisdom chose to heat the washer fluid. If you perform this operation while the fluid is still hot, you will get an uncomfortably warm sensation on your hand...

The headlight motors are attached to the bottom of the headlight units and they all (lights and h/l motors all come out as one single unit. Just be careful not to scratch the top of your bumper as you pull the headlights out.

You do not need to do anything with the wiring for the extra pump of for the h/l wipers. Just tape over the plugs to protect the contacts from dust and grime.

It is a fairly straightfoward job!

Let me know when you are ready!

Yeah the W124 Coupes are a rare species, have yet to encounter one in my area.
