Why would anyone go into a salvage yard, doesn't matter what make and NOT ask the prices FIRST? I don't even go first. I call and get prices. Dennis

Our local yard recently jacked up their prices....they now charge "per removable part" on a lot of stuff. So, a headlight assembly....is two pieces supposedly....and thus comes in around $60....they used to be about $23 total. I said "this is sold as one unit, so why would it not be the same here?" He wouldn't budge. So I left it. A perfect W126 light assembly. Then when I got home I realized I had two good later-W126 units I had hoarded a while back. LOL. Good thing I didn't buy it.

They want $15 for a power antenna......$13 for the light strip out of a light bar on a W126....I said "yeah right, this is just some wires and light bulbs".......he says "well, now the light lens is ruined because you took it apart to get that. I said "nope, the lens is still on the car, go look for yourself"....so he cut me a deal.... two of them for $10....still scammy. Next time I'm going to just pull the sockets. A lot of their stuff is too pricey now. Most is cheaper on ebay.

Ours has a big sign on the wall outlining prices for most stuff.....but when I went I hadn't realized that they jacked everything up 40%.....

I was careless because I read the other day a price list of pick-n-pull with very reasonable prices

http://www.crazyraysautoparts.com/price.htm

e.g Instrument Cluster..............................................25.47

so I thought the prices at that junk yard were also similar. Lesson learnt

Crazy Ray's buys junkers for their scrap value. What they get from the gleaners is profit.

Yeah, I am now experienced at removing those parts, especially the headlight, which alone took me 20 minutes

I remember that yard from when I lived in FTW. They have always charged ridiculous prices.
I knew the owners of Little John's down the street and could get a deal there if they had the car I was looking for.
sigh - spending Saturdays on Elliot Reeder Rd... those where the days

Anyone know of a good MB yard in Raleigh or Greensboro?

I would have bolted everything back on the car or charged them $200 in labor!

Small things like relays have a tendency to jump into my toolbox the naughty things!

For $1400 I would have taken the entire car! Especially since they probably CHARGED the PO $100 to take it away!

I am glad my local guys are more reasonable things like window regulators with motors for $10, speedometer for $25, etc...

Where in TN?

Another 1996 E320 wreck car from the same junk yard

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/pts/1098976945.html

Anyone in Dallas-Fort Worth area wants to try his/her dismantling and negotiation skill?

One funny thing was as the guy at the register said fourteen hundreds and xxxx I did not trust my hearing, partly because I did not expect such high number and partly because I spent a long time in Europe and still get stuck with the way of saying an amount, I asked back "Was it one thousand four hundred and change?" then it was the other guy who did not understand me at once and turned the monitor toward me to show me the prices.

As I said I did offer $600 for the lot, talking to another man, who seemed to have a say there, maybe the owner himself, a blond guy.
