I would have bolted everything back on the car or charged them $200 in labor!

Small things like relays have a tendency to jump into my toolbox the naughty things!

For $1400 I would have taken the entire car! Especially since they probably CHARGED the PO $100 to take it away!

I am glad my local guys are more reasonable things like window regulators with motors for $10, speedometer for $25, etc...

I thought I'd hit the mother lode and went instantly to the junk yard.
After 1 and 1/2 hour of labor, ruining my best office attire and my finger nails I pulled out following parts, all in good condition:

instrument cluster, what I just in dire need of
1 head light assembly (right)
2 tail lights
3 electronic modules in the relay box
2 sun visors

and some small parts like car jack, spark plug wires, first-aid kit, connectors, gas cap etc.

The awakening came at the register, they wanted $1415.- altogether. First I thought I was not hearing right then they showed me the monitor screen displaying the prices:

$192.- instrument cluster
$252.- head light assembly
$198.- 2 tail lights
$594.- 3 electronic modules in the relay box
$86.- 2 sun visors

the rest for the small parts.

Of course I went out empty-handed, would not think of paying such high prices from a junk yard, they are even more expensive than on ebay. I did offer $600.- but got no deal.

In the end I have worked almost 2 hours for them, removing the parts
My bad that I did not ask about their prices beforehand. I had thought to get the parts for less than 100 bucks each. I don't think that I would go to junk yards again soon. It's not worth the time and effort.
......sounds like you were at Park Place Motorcars on Lemmon Avenue!

Why would anyone go into a salvage yard, doesn't matter what make and NOT ask the prices FIRST? I don't even go first. I call and get prices. Dennis

Ours has a big sign on the wall outlining prices for most stuff.....but when I went I hadn't realized that they jacked everything up 40%.....

Anyone in Dallas-Fort Worth area wants to try his/her dismantling and negotiation skill?

Our local yard recently jacked up their prices....they now charge "per removable part" on a lot of stuff. So, a headlight assembly....is two pieces supposedly....and thus comes in around $60....they used to be about $23 total. I said "this is sold as one unit, so why would it not be the same here?" He wouldn't budge. So I left it. A perfect W126 light assembly. Then when I got home I realized I had two good later-W126 units I had hoarded a while back. LOL. Good thing I didn't buy it.

They want $15 for a power antenna......$13 for the light strip out of a light bar on a W126....I said "yeah right, this is just some wires and light bulbs".......he says "well, now the light lens is ruined because you took it apart to get that. I said "nope, the lens is still on the car, go look for yourself"....so he cut me a deal.... two of them for $10....still scammy. Next time I'm going to just pull the sockets. A lot of their stuff is too pricey now. Most is cheaper on ebay.

I remember that yard from when I lived in FTW. They have always charged ridiculous prices.
I knew the owners of Little John's down the street and could get a deal there if they had the car I was looking for.
sigh - spending Saturdays on Elliot Reeder Rd... those where the days

Anyone know of a good MB yard in Raleigh or Greensboro?

Hey Texholdem, I have a smoked silver W210 just like the totaled one in the pics. Did you notice if the interior was mushroom? If so, did you notice if the driver's side seat bottom cover was OK?

Yes, the interior was mushroom as mine but it was a mess inside, perhaps only because of dirt and debris lying around, did not notice tear or damages to the front seats, the back seats were turned over though, someone might have taken the battery.
