The best reason to drive a 'Benz (W123 in particular)

I sold my first and only gasser (I am a Diesel guy mostly) MB (1985 280E) to a friend a few years ago, and he traded it to another friend, and he (Ben) was involved in a red light runner "T" bone collision.

Ben called and texted the photos to me and said he is fine. He actually went to urgent care to be checked out, and only has soft tissue damage and pain in his hip. I don't know how bad the other car was (Ben didn't say), but I imagine it was bad as well. This is another testament to the quality and strength that is built into these cars. I am happy that Ben got the W123 to replace his Nissan Stanza. I think he might have been hurt much more......Rich

Glad he's OK - t-bones are the worst. Don't let him go back to the Stanza: The Nissan Stanza May Be The Most Unrewarding Car You Can Buy

No problem there. I turned him into a 'Benz guy. He fell in live with the 280E my friend (Keith) got from me, and traded his 240D for it. I think Ben wants to get another Diesel, even though he liked the power and style of the Euro 280E 4 spd.

Good Story.....

.....under unfortunate circumstances. In a round about way you probably saved your friend from more serious injury. What is going to happen to the 280?

It will get parted out, or some parts saved if Ben decides to buy the 280CE he is looking at. He would just fix up the CE and sell it, as he really wants a Diesel (I don't blame him).
I got the car back to my place today, and it looks a LOT worse than I thought it was. Photos to be posted tomorrow. It is truly a miracle from God that Ben is not more injured than he is. He is getting around fine today with just a little hobble in his step. He has determined that he wants another 123, or maybe a 116 (he has always liked that body style)......Rich

EDIT: I just tried to charge the battery, and it has a dead short in it. I imagine the sudden change of direction forced some of the plates together.

More photos

Here are more photos of the car:

It's no wonder he has been having a sore hip for the past few days.

The right rear wheel:

The lug bolts just pulled right out of the hub when the wheel came in contact with a tree.
