Help,
My 300 SD was "totalled" in a rear end collision last week. The estimate for repair is 6000$, and the insurance states that a 84 300SD (230K) is only worth about 5000$. Any advice on what to do? I just recently had the car painted, and it (used to) runs in excellent condition. Any ideas on comparison prices for 300SD (They will consider cars being sold in the market to determine value). What does salvaging a car involve? I have another 83 300SD, and am wondering if I should just use the car for spare parts and then get rid of it? Any advice appreciated. |

What should happen, if you have collision coverage, is that your insurance company writes you a check for the $5000 minus your deductible. If you want to buy the car back with a salvage title, you pay them a modest sum (in my case this spring, it would have been $700 to buy back my wrecked '90 Acura Integra). Then you have to either keep it garaged or get it fixed and re-inspected and re-registered. Not a bad deal if you want a parts car, if you have the space.

My insurance company is determining my car value at 5000 dollars. Does anyone have any ads or know of any 300SD's for sale that are selling for higher value (1984 300SD 230K)? My insurance company is willing to match similar prices for the car.
I still have my remaining 83 300SD. I am afraid to drive it in traffic, after what happenened to my other car. Is additional insurance coverage available if you wanted to pay more wanted to insurance the car for additional collision coverage |

According to NADA (www.nada.com) the retail ranges from 4,900-8,125.

I purchase(in NYC)my 1983 300 SD (Turbo Diesel)back in May with 137K miles for $4,000. I invested an additional $700.00 in the suspension and the breaks. I put 5K miles since May and I'm considering a new paint job. The prices in these cars fluctuate a lot and the condition of the vehicle seems to be more important than anything else.

While rummaging through the Yahoo! classifieds for MB's I stumbled across a guy in Clearwater FL. who is selling an '82 300SD with 275,000mi for 9250.00. I know its older than yours, but maybe that'll count in your favor. Good luck with the Insurance Co. P.S. the ad was posted 9/23/99 ------------------ '83 300D-T |
