Door panel removal and vacuum question-124

Thanks to a lot of help from this site I diagnosed a bad vacuum supply pump for the door locks in my 124. I have replaced the pump and it works great!!!

However, it continues to run when the doors are locked by either the key in the driver's door or by manually depressing the driver's door lock. This has lead me to believe that there is a leak in this door's actuator or vacuum plumbing. Please correct me if I am wrong in this assumption. I believe that this leak caused the vacuum pump to continue to run until the motor eventually fried.

The problem is that I can not seem to get the driver's door panel off. I have the CDs and have followed them as close as possible. They have proven to be wrong in this situation.

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge with the removal of this door panel?

The more room you have to open the door the better. Roll down your window. Take out the little interior piece at the upper front. Make sure you locate and remove all the screws. Take off the two plates that cover the seat switch adjustments (be careful when prying start from one side and pry). Take out the interior light on the door panel and disconnect wire. I can't remember if there's a screw that holds down the door handle to the door itself. (Prolly not)Grab the inside door handle and push in and up. This will release the hooks within. There's quite a few. Once you get a few off you can see how they actually hold on. Once all the hooks are loose, moe to the top of the panel, and push down and in again to release the interior weather strip seal. There's 3 or 4 metal retaining hooks. Once you get one the ends off the rest should follow. Try not to tear the plastic sheet.

Install in reverse order

Take your time

It should take about 10 - 30 minutes

Good luck

Shoebox,

Thanks for the help. Per the CD instructions, I have removed the interior trim around the rearview mirror adjustment knob, removed the trim around the seat adjustment and door handle, removed the bolt holding the large door handle to the door, and removed the trim around the actual door lock on the side of the door.

Are there any other srews the CD did not mention? I will try pushing in and up.

Thanks for all the help guys. This is what I have determined: One evening I locked the doors. There was a leak in the driver's side door vacuum that caused the vacuum pump to run until to fried the control panel. Why the fuse did not go first? I do not know. It is the correct amperage.

I replaced the vacuum pump thinking this would resolve my problems to find the pump continuing to run. After hearing a hiss in the driver's door and realizing that after a slight upward pull on the door lock that the pump would stop running, I replaced the driver's door vaccum actuator.

Thanks again
