W126 seat memory not working

I just noticed the other day that the seat memory function is not working for driver or passenger on my 560SEL.

The electric seats work fine, just the memory function.

Where do you start looking? Fuses?

Cheers
Matt.

Just to clarify, if I move the seat using the electric controls and then push either the memory 1 or 2 buttons the seat does not return.

I have tried reprogramming but no joy.

Help.

Cheers
Matt.

I will take a guess here...

Have you checked to see if the plug is properly connected to the power seat box? This came to my mind when I was removing the door panel.. and remembered a plug that dealt with power seat memory.

Not sure where this box is that you refer to but neither driver or passenger side are working so I would probably discount a loose plug in either of the doors or seats, however with nothing else to go on I will follow this up.

Is this plug in the door?

Cheers
Matt.

The box I am reffering to is actually the brain for the power seats. Where all the buttons and knobs hook up. Once you pop out the knobs, pop the plastic cover, you wll see the entire box. Behind it are a series of plugs... one controls the head rest, the back of the seat and seat bottom... as well as the memory. I thought it would be worth seeing if the plug is entirely in... but then again, its just a guess.

Had the same thing on my 560sel. I had the wood refinished and found that #2 preset button was hanging slightly which caused none of the pre sets to work. Try pushing each button to make sure they move freely all the way in and out. If that fails, get some electonic tuner lube and cleaner from electronic supply store (Radio Shack?) and spray the switchs from behind - they could be sticking internally from old lubricant.

Mattman.. if you would like to check this out, there is a process to doing so. Its about 15 minutes long.. so here is how to remove the box without damagind any wood, etc.

Unscrew the two screws off the speaker grill on the door. These two screws are on the bottom. Once the grill is off, you will have an easier access to unscrewing the third screw off of the door arm pull. Then unscrew the 2nd screw which is in the middle of the door arm pull.

pop out the power door knobs. Then gently pop out the black plastic cover. You will know be able to see the box. It is screwed in with 2 brass colored screws, one on each side. You will not be able to remove this yet... so you need to do the following to have it come out...

pop out the plastic piece inside the silver inner-door handle. there will be one small screw in the middle.. unscrew that. Pull back the black metal piece that was held down and it will expose the 3rd and final screw of the door arm pull. Then you will be able to pop out the power seat box with out any problems. Make sure all 4.. i believe there were 4 plugs are secured properly. If these plugs are secured.. then sorry that i put you through this process.. but it was worth a check. I doubt that this is a fuse related issue because you would have no movement of the seat at all in this case.

Tell me how it goes... and good luck.

I am interested on this as well. The memory on my driver's seat (91 560SEL) is not working. I thought the brain of the power seat is at the bottom of the driver's seat?

The motor that moves the seats forward and back is on the bottom. The "controller" is in the door.
