I'm busting a gut to tell about my new C240. I hate to put it in the Tech help, but I don't know where else to put it.
It finally came in. I went to the dealer this morning where I bought it. I specified the tech to do my predelivery inspection. He is a 26 year friend of mine. I was with him while he did the PDI. It was fun. He and I have crawled around under every new, or new to me car I ever bought. This time, we didn't have to crawl, he simply raised it on his lift. He did the test drive, I was the passenger. We went to Starbucks and he bought me a cup. What a deal, the maiden voyage and a free cup of coffee. The pinstripe has been added which made a big difference. The car came in clean except for a rough road code that was set, assumably because of the truck ride, or coming off the truck. Everything checked out well and neither of us could find a trace of damage of any sort. I guess there were just too many qued at the port, to get it shipped very quickly. The car is Bordeaux Red with an Oyster interior. It has a lot of ridiculous gadget options that I would not have added, had I ordered the car. But it's great to get it now, while I'm in dire need of wheels. This morning was the last day to drive my Vette, and it set a code. The POS is putting up one last act of defiance. It was the first W203 car that my friend had driven, and he was as excited about it as I am. I will be leaving for Nashville one week from this Sunday. I'll report on how it does on the road. Maybe I won't have to call roadside assistance with this one. I'm going under the assumption that I've already experienced my MB lemon with my '96 E Class and that this one will be "golden". I take delivery tomorrow, wish me luck, ------------------ Larry Bible '01 C Class, Six Speed '84 Euro 240D, 523K miles '88 300E 5 Speed '81 300D Daughter's Car Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |

Larry,
Good to hear that after all the wait you finally get to see your new car. I was invited to test drive the new C by my dealer recently, and I was very impressed with the C320. As a matter of fact I was so impressed with the new re-designed C, I almost traded in my roadster. I wish you luck with this new car and enjoy !! 95 R129 98 ML320 ------------------ |

Larry,
Glad to hear about the new car. I spent most of last night catching up on reading six pages of new messages on the board and have been feeling a bit of anticipation for your new arrival. Glad to hear it'll be home tomorrow. Too bad my return trip timing wasn't closer, I could have seen your new car, it sounds wonderful. We passed through on Saturday, made it border to border in record time, but not autobahn speeds . Good luck on your shakedown cruise, sit back and enjoy the ride. Next time I'm passing close by your place, we can try to get together. Stay safe. ------------------ Mike Tangas 73 280 SEL 4.5 [This message has been edited by MikeTangas (edited 10-03-2000).] |

Larry,
Congratulations on your new purchase! I was just at my dealer the other day, and they had a new C320 sitting on the floor. I only had about a minute to walk around it and look inside, but I was impressed nonetheless. Anyways, the thought occured to me that it's been awhile since we've had a new car review in the Featured Cars section. If you had the time to sit down and write a piece on your C240, I bet a bunch of people on this board are dying to read a new review. best of luck with the new car, anthony |

I apologize for beginning this thread under Tech Help. I guess I had never paid attention to the Featured Cars section. From the title, I thought that it was an area where official magazine type articles were posted.
I will continue the discussion about my newborn there. Thanks to everyone for their patience, noone gave me a hard time for plugging up Tech Help. Larry |

Larry,
Congratulations on your new ride! I got an invitation to go to the dealer to see one, now I think I will. I must say, I can't think of a better maiden voyage than driving from Memphis this time of year. If you have time, going east to Gatlinburg is a beautiful drive. A drive in beautiful country with the intoxicating aroma of a new Benz. WOW! I wish you many miles of safe, trouble free enjoyment! Regards, Mr. BILL 90 300SE 85 300D 84 300SD (sold) |

Mr. Bill,
Actually I leave Sunday the 15th. for Nashville. I have three days business there, then I will spend the rest of the week and Saturday with an old Army buddy of mine who lives near Sevierville(sp?). I'm quite sure we will drive plenty in the Smoky's and have a meal or two in or near Gatlinburg. Thanks for the response, ------------------ Larry Bible '01 C Class, Six Speed '84 Euro 240D, 523K miles '88 300E 5 Speed '81 300D Daughter's Car Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |

Larry,
While in Memphis try out the original Red Hot Blues. They have two locations in Jackson, MS and both were great. Good BBQ and blues music in the background, great "hot" BBQ sauce too. Try not to drip any sauce on yourself, or you'll be posting a "how to clean new oyster interior" on the detailing forum. ------------------ Mike Tangas 73 280 SEL 4.5 [This message has been edited by MikeTangas (edited 10-07-2000).] |

Cool... I recently drove a new 2001 C200 Kompressor in Germany. Picked it up in Frankfurt, drove down to Sindelfingen, up to Koln and back to Frankfurt. That plus a little Autobahn fun and I managed to put over 1200KM on the car.
In short, it's the best C Class I've driven to date as I've never really liked the previous C Class. This car had the Tiptronic auto, but it's a rental car. It handled very well despite the steel wheels (euro spec) and with the 2.0 liter 4-cylinder Kompressor (rated about 150PS), I managed to get up to speeds in excess of 230kph (142mph)outside of Koln. Even at those speeds, I found the car more stable than some 5-series BMWs I've driven over in Germany as well. Things were going just lovely until a new Porsche blew by doing well over 270kph... show-off. I have not driven the US versions, but they are spec'd out quite nicely. If I needed another car, one would probably be on the list... then again, my folks are looking for a new car. Regards, KM |
