I dove into project OM617 engine swap today only to spend three hours on one stubborn 10mm bolt clinging to the fan/water pump puller in place that some previous imbecile had completely stripped. In my zeal to unfasten it the bloody crank turned CCW a couple degrees so I'm praying the chain didn't slack enough to lose time. I'll check the cam timing, so keep your fingers crossed for me. Today I also drained the coolant, removed the air cleaner assy, and the heater hoses. I drained the PS fluid with my nifty air compressor powered mityvac thing, it worked a treat! I disconnected the PS lines at the pump, and then unbolted and removed the pump.
There's still plenty left to do before I can yank the donor motor, but it feels good to at least get started. I'm incredibly tired now. Goodnight. |

Just when things were going brilliantly. Granny had a fall a week ago on Monday night. She refused to go to the hospital, so my mom and I kept close watch on her. She's hanging in there, able to walk and all, and she did eventually relent and allow us to have her checked out for permanent damage. Thankfully other than a wicked goose egg on the back of her noggin she's alright. My Grams is a tough old bird and I love her. She's even going to try to stop smoking cigarettes!! This is a big thing as she's been smoking since '48.
My heart goes out to the folks in KY, IN, Al, etc who suffered from the round of Tornado outbreaks. Other than spending a tremendous amount of time watching the weather channel we thankfully weren't harmed here in East TN. Here's my current To Do list... -Project Super Diesel, the engine swap and preformance upgrades for the SD. -Succesfully troubleshoot Wilmas fuel system so Internal Combustion may once again occur. A Bosch book by Ben Watson recommended by Mercmad6.3 is on it's way to help me out. -overhaul the entire hydraulic component of Kim the finnys brakes. Master cyl, booster, all hard lines, rubber lines, etc. Yay for tube bending. Ugh -various small jobs on the 300D -various small jobs on Mert the 280. A note here. If you're ever in the position to buy a car from forum member WolfWalker (zen, and the art of diesel) DO IT! I bought Mert a year ago from Rex and I have to say this /8 is the nicest car vie ever bought from anyone anywhere ever. Mert is actually my favorite car! -take some photos of the CArmada when possible; ie after the 280S w116 gets here. The truck is now a very fast mover, expect evidence of the smoke soon. Interestingly though from a standing start the Bertha the E550 positively emasculated my demon truck. It will be great fun to see how Herb the Ford compares to mum's beloved E Cabriolet this summer on the drag strip. ![]() |

Had loads of fun wrenching on the 300D inching my way to engine removal. Enjoyed getting massively greasy with diesel slime. I also pulled the booster on Kim. Holy ****, it was positively brimming with brake fluid.

What type of booster is it? ,one on the firewall or down the front beside the radiator?

I promise, I didn't paint this one green. It's a factory job, this one. She's a '76 280S vis many Teutonic vonders beneath ze schkin. I shall provide more photos in the near future. The 1 mile drive home from the rendezvous with the Kenworth was sprightly and only mildly terror invoking. Let's just say the amount of brake pressure required to halt Das Sledd borders on minimal, but the pedal travel is extraordinary. Mind you this is better than the situation with the accelerator pedal, which isn't there at all. One stokes the engine by means of the stick upon which the accelerator pedal is normally fastened to. I could go on. BUT, Sadie the 280S is an exact clone to the 280S my granny bought in the 70s, also named Sadie. This is also a clone to the car my mum learned to drive on in Chicago. Let's just say a bit of nostalgia was involved in this one.
Other news, I will soon be receiving a Cold Steel 1860 Heavy Cavalry Saber. It's effects are devastating and it passes the British Proof Test. It will be a long while until I feel confident enough in it's use on horseback though. |

Nice 116. I had a 79 280S. It was a wonderful highway cruiser with a beautfully smoothe engine. Unfortunately it also has the damm Solex 4A1 carb. You'll have to be careful about that.
- Peter.
