I have taken off the vacuum hose to the IP, as I reported several posts back and it still won't start.
However, I will remove it again and check those lines again for fuel. Is there a way to totally disconnect the shutoff valve to check it? Can I just pull back on the "stop" lever while someone tries to start it? Will that tell me if the cutoff is bad? Don |

Still trying...
I do recall that whenever I put fuel in, as I removed the cap there was a really serious vacuum release. Is that normal and if the tank vent is not working, would that be enough to keep it from starting?

Diesel Giant,
I went through your entire pictorial (it is FANTASTIC, by the way) and everything checked out. (However, I did not pull each GP and hook it to battery box.) The results were: 12v at main voltage wires and on both sides of the GP relay fuse and the pins are receiving 12v on the relay. The relay, wires and GP are testing at about .7-.9 ohms. The only difference is that the GPs are getting about 10.5 volts instead of 12. I am still trying to figure out why I am not getting fuel to injector ports 1,2, and 3. Don |

Now, I know I have fuel on the inboard side of the IP.
But, now I have a leak at the return line at injector one! Can I replace it with standard fuel hose (rubber)? Could there be something plugging the return line? |

If you put it all back together and leave the filler cap off.......it just might start right up. |

It Runs!!
Brian,
You were right (and someone else mentioned the tank vent)! I took off the gas cap and it started right up!!! NOW, how do I clean or fix the tank vent and how do I get to it? THANKS TO EVERYONE for helping a slow-minded former jarhead (I guess that is redundant). Don't forget to help me figure out the vent fix. Don |

The large vaccum equalisation noise when removing the fuel cap when mentioned obviously led Brian to it. You can drive home with a loose fuel cap or partiially stuff a rag into the end portion of the neck. Or sacrifice the cap by drilling a small hole in it. Just do not totally fill the tank. Then fix the problem after you get home. Hope you have a good return trip.

That's a Kentucky gas cap. |

The Vent line...
Well,
I found the tank vent line. I took off the liner in the trunk and the vent line from the top of the tank is a one piece welded on the top. You cannot get into the vent line from the top of the tank. It disappears under the tank and through the floor. Under the car, I took off the vent sleeve at the outlet. I took off the 90 degree valve directly under the car. It was difficult to blow through one way and impossible the other way. I cannot get air through the vent line from the valve to the exit and I cannot blow back into to the tank. I will leave the valve off and see if the vacuum problem returns at the fuel cap. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Don |

Don,
What does the 90* vent valve look like? How is it attached to the vent line? P E H |

I will take a picture of the valve tomorrow and post it. It was similar to a primary fuel filter and was attach to rubber vacuum hoses (both only about 3" long) by hose clamps. One to the line going up into the trunk and the tank. The other to the vent line that goes to about the trailing arm bushing. I cannot get into the tank at the vent line (it is a solid welded piece) to force air out to tryl to clean it. I have placed a fuel cap with a small hole drilled in it to prevent the vacuum build up again. I do not know what else to do with it, yet. I will post the picture tomorrow afternoon. Thanks, Don |
