injection pump

forum, would anyone have a parts source for the injection pump used on the 603 engine?
the number on the pump is pes6m556320rs178.
heres my problem,i got a pump that seeps motor oil from the plate (6 screw holes) at the bottom of the ip oil sump. first went to diesel injection(lou ky)to order new gasket.the replacement gasket wasnt like the formed gasket from the origional. part number was rb1-410-206-029,its cut round with 2ea 90 deg sides.
second stop was at taffel motors in lou,epc showed the formed gasket,ordered,3 days later recieved the identical round cut gasket . mercedes part number is 0049974640.
so would anyone have a source for the origional formed rubber gasket to seal the ip oil pan?
i would take my hat off to anyone who could use the replacement with no leaks(while i have my hat off please run me thru the process)

injection pump

bob, good idea, will do,just thought that others could have run into the same problem and as i couldnt find anything in the forum post just thought it would be a decent subject.
the origional gasket is sorta on the same design as the valve cover gaskets,as the tightening bolts are designed to bottom out when the gasket is in compression enough to seal. the origional ip formed gasket has at mininum 2 times the sealing surface as the replacement(square o ring 1/8 in square).i can get the replacement gasket to seal without the engine running by using permatex black form a gasket, waited 24 hours for complete cure ,followed all directions on the form a gasket .this ip gets full oil pressure from the oil gally and drains back to the main oil sump(pan).just have to conclude that the gasket dont seal on its own, form a gasket does seal it but as soon as the oil pressure hits, the form a gasket gets distorted and allows the motor oil to pass. last time i tried i let it set over night and it never leaked a drop, started it up and raised the lift and the seeping started.(3-4 minute max).

The seal is an O-ring type but it is not O shape. It is square type and goes over the bottom plate. I did 2 SDL with the IP in situ. The MBZ part # is correct.

Bosch certified Fuel Injection Shops would also have the Gasket/O-ring.

Had the same problem had local Bosch shop order the gasket kit for the pump when i asked where the rectangular one was, he said there never was a rectangular moulded one that the old one just got that way from being clamped in there.I used the one that came in the kit and it worked ok ,i had the pump on the bench so easy to do. I also read somewhere that the o ring from the oil filter cover will work but i didnt try it and i am not sure if that was for a 5 or 6 cyl pump. Don

ok about to give up

i would bet that there was a molded gasket to begin with, look at the picture in the parts break down.
ok i can remove and install the ip bottom plate in 45 minutes, ask me how? from practice, have had the thing off 5 times now, leaked all times i reinstalled, last time with a different bottom plate and a genuine mb seal.
guys i need help?would anyone have bought an extra that would measure for me to try and determine if i just got a bad batch? i think if it was thicker it would work, with the 6 screws bottomed out it will hold oil, but will leak when under running oil pressure. would anyone dare to look at the one they replaced and see if it seeps oil , mine seeps at the front of the plate.
i measure 2.88 mm x 105mm on one that i put in and removed and 2.9mm x 105mm on one still in the package new.
thanks for the help

if you really are looking to replace the whole pump, there's a couple for sale in the parts section. and I believe they were rebuilt IIRC

mystery leak found

ok forum, better keep a good check going on the brace at the rear of those diesel injection pumps.
havent got it off yet but it sure looks like the bolts for the rear brace to block worked loose and vibration cracked the housing of the ip where the front of the plate gasket seals. will post results later, waiting for the tool to come in that holds the drive gear for ip and vac pump.

put this one to bed

ok forum, the ip housing was indeed cracked, welded up the crack, installed the mb square gasket, test drove and no leaks.
i do suggest that the crack in the housing was a direct result of the ip rear brace to block not holding(one bolt missing and one left hanging ).
i did get quite a scare because the ip center splined shaft was stuck into the drive gear spline and had to be pried out, spline of ip had been damaged from working on the vibrating ip pump. so if this does happen,i solved by filing the 32 splines with a 3 sided file till i could feel the drive gear just start on,then i covered both splines with 600 grit valve grinding compound and forced with hammer. kept that up for 2 complete revolutions(64 on 64 off),then i could insert the ip spline into the drive gear just with hand pressure. hope this will help some one.(new ip is about 4000.00)

Welding an IP? You're brave, and apparently quite skilled. I'd warp or crack the whole damned thing.

You might be thinking of ARC Welding with Rods. They do make Aluminum Rods but they are used for heavier metal and even then seldom used.

Heliarc or the Flux Core Welders heat only a small area.
