It was the rust that finished it off! The strut tower on the right side broke away today. Engine still running!

Stupid road salt. Some environmental types want it banned. I'm inclined to agree, though for very different reasons.

I am not for or against WVO, but I do believe your reasoning is flawed. It is like saying, "Ha, see I smoked all my life and everyone said I would die of lung cancer but they were wrong because I got hit by a truck." You didn't prove that cigarettes don't cause lung cancer, you just showed that there are other ways to go.

Anyway, I hope you find another suitable Benz and have many happy miles on WVO if that is what you want to do. I would consider it if my commute was longer and the economics worked in my favor.

The Lung Cancer analogy is a decent one because different People with the same smoking habit all do not get Lung Cancer. Some will get it many will not.

Some WVO uses have no issues with their Engine and Fuel System others have a lot of problems.

But, from what I have read on the various Mercedes Forums from people who are posting with problems that seem to be directly related to WVO use; there is more people having problems with WVO use than not.

From what I have read People who get control over the variables of WVO use and keep their Engine and Fuel System in top shape have much better luck with WVO than others do.
Living in a warm climate helps also.

It is a good analogy but not an exact analogy. It is because most WVO users experiment with WVO when the car is 20+ years old with 1000s of miles on the clock. So a lot of the time it is not the WVO that kills the car, but other pre-existing conditions. Exactly what happened to the OP.

It is like smoking when one is at 40+, the pre-existing kills due to diabetic, high blood pressure or others.

Not wanting to turn this into a WVO pro/con thread, I will only state that I am one of those with great success running WVO for years in a number of cars. Besides, all the cars I have had are RUST FREE California cars, so I have no way of experiencing a rusted out car that still runs well on WVO.

Since you have had a positive experience with WVO what advice do you give to those who have used WVO and have had trouble caused by running WVO?

It might be someday I will try running WVO myself but I would be watching for the troubles I have read that others have had.

If the OP wants to comment on WVO on this thread or allow it to turn into a PRO WVO thread, then he can offer advice here. Otherwise, there are plenty of current threads going on the subject. You could also start another thread and invite me to offer my experiences. There are naysayers out there that have not even tried it and just flat out say that it will ruin your engine. Experience is the best teacher, and I don't accept any opinion from someone that has not honestly tried running WVO properly.
