Put it in an rx8, they can be had extremely cheap with worn out engines. I don't think it'd clear the hood at all but length wouldn't be a problem.

If your friend is interested, I have the adapter kit to mate the OM617 to a Chevy/GM 700R4 transmission; one of the few automatics on this side of the pond that plays well with the OM617.

How about a 300CE 124? Put a CD badge from a 123 on it.

That would be almost as good as putting an OM602 in a 124 coupe. I have all the parts to do just that (wrecked W124 300D 2.5 turbo, and 124 coupe). He would need the transmission as well, as the OM617 engine will not bolt to the trans in the W124.

Cressidas be they x7 or x8 chassis are front sump, so are our om617's.
There would be lots of room up front and a nice weight balance with the 5 cyl.
What is the weight of an om617a?
5/7m/2jz are roughly 600lbs...
