Removing Rear Flange Nut, 722.4 Transmission

Car is '96 W210 E300. I'm going to replace the output seal on the transmission while the driveshaft is out. Is it OK to use the parking interlock to hold the assembly from turning while removing and installing the nuts? Or do I need to back it up with something else? I will not be using impact tools or hammers. The repair procedures I've found aren't specific, saying merely "put the trans in park and remove the nut".

Thanks!
