Karlyn Guide Rod Repairt Kit - am I in trouble?
Ordered a bunch of front end parts for the 1984 300DT. When I placed the order I requested Lemforder on everything. Somehow, the seller sent Karlyn/Kratex for the Guide Rod Repair Kit instead of the Lemforder I had requested.
It has been so long I don't remember exactly what happened but now that I am about to start the work, I am concerned that the Karlyn might not be as good a quality and may fail sooner than the Lemforder Guide Rod Repair Kit. Thoughts or ideas are appreciated. |

I don't believe a lot of people have used that companies guide rod mounts. On the Motor Mounts Lemforder boxes mounts made by Phoenix and they still have the Phoenix logo on them. I have no way to know if Karlyn/Kratex parts are boxed by Lemforder. Are the guide rod mounts themselves marked where they were made. As an example I recently bought Meyle subframe bushings and the box had Myele Germany but I cant remember if it was the mounts are another sticker on the Box had made in Thailand. Also Lemforder company is part of a conglomerated.

I found this:
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1462270-karlyn-products From post #16 "I need to add my 2 cents. A few years ago, I was about to order Karlyn tierods, endlinks for my 1998 Volvo V70. Karlyn prices were so good and so tempting. So I did a little research, Karlyn package says "engineered in Germany", but the reality is that the parts are made in Taiwan because I spoke to Karlyn HQ in New York State (If I am wrong, someone can correct me)." Post #19 "I've used lot of suspension components from Karylin and they're holding up fine after 2 years/45k miles. Just because they cost 1/2 or 1/3 or lemfoerder doesn't mean they're bad quality. Those days of "higher price =better quality" are long gone. Compared to OEM, Karylin looks exactly the same, performs the same but without the high price tag or "OEM Lemfoerder" sticker. Besides, pair Karylin rear control arms are a bargain compared to Lemfoerder ($80 vs $220), so you don't have much to lose to try them out."

I am searching our own forum for Krylan:
Said Krylan Mounts collapsed: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/352439-brand-engine-mount-4.html#post3847541 Wiskydan got some Karylan upper control arms for a later model and they were too wide to fit.

I'd see where it's made. The Lemforder guide rod for the W123 is made in Italy, I ended up buying a Rein one which is also made in Italy and seems like it's probably from the same factory (Rein is a parts reboxer, lots of it is actually OES stuff). It was $30 vs the $55 for Lemforder.

I looked on the box, there was some german writing but nothing that says where they were made or manufactured.
It's difficult sometimes to gauge quality but on this particular part there isn't that much to screw up. I guess I could install them and if things go bad, replace them with genuine Lemforder or MB OEM. |

I would install. The DIY learning curve is tough and the process will be much easier if there is a 2nd time. Make sure to do all that needs doing and the car will drive like a new Mercedes.
