Wrong my credit score is 770.
I am one of the forunate people in this country that can afford to pay there debt on time. I am also fimiliar with consumer law unlike some of the people you work for and try to collect from.
What is the name of this company you work for? I would bet that since they are still trying to collect debt with the old knock on door routine that they are violating many federal statues.

sorry for implying that you are stupid. You are just ignorant of the federal laws that protect consumer rights.

I really don't want to pick a fight with you, but I have made a pointed effort to be absolutely sure, as a legal liability issue, that I'm not in violation of any statutes, federal, state or local. I work on a contract basis with some lenders directly, and others through clearinghouses that assign field chase assignments. All of these parties agree that we are in good shape from a legal standpoint. The main thing to be careful of is 3rd party disclosures...can't divulge anything to anyone but the debtor.
I respect your distaste for this sort of work and can see why people wrinkle their noses when I tell them what I do. These are not small, shady lenders though, and even though I feel that I'm on solid ground legally, I doubt these large lenders would use my services if they didn't review the legalities and weren't secure in our legal footing.
The FDCPA notes several no-no's such as profanity, disturbing the peace, and threatening something you can't make happen, such as saying if you don't pay today we'll repo the car, when it's not my decision whether or not to pull the car.

Well the economy needs repo men and debt collectors to run. Heck distressed properties are awsome!

From my understanding the consumer can request that the debt collector simply stop contacting them.

Anyway I'd rather just pay my bills it keeps life simple.

the problem is the people doing the billing can't keep their end straight so we pay them anyway to keep our credit from being shafted. compnays know this and use credit reporting as tool to get money that they did not earn or deserve.

A simple "cease and desist(spelling???) request via the US Mail will keep a creditor from calling or showing up at your place of employment. My personal experience is that some lenders are far more prone to lost payments and other screw-ups than others. I also have a pet peeve with lenders who use call centers in India...even though the people allegedly speak English, there is a cultural barrier and some language barrier that debtors find frustrating.

In defense of debtors, it can be nearly impossible to call the lender's 800# and actually talk to a live person to discuss the account. I also see some tendency for a collector to tell the debtor something, then when they call back next time, there are no notes about the conversation and when they get a different collector they have to start from scratch and the arrangements are never what were agreed-to the last time.

On the whole subject of repo-men/asset recovery agents...that is a scary way to make a living. Part of their job is running investigations in order to locate the collateral, which is interesting enough, but sneaking around in the middle of the night grabbing the vehicle is scary.

Even with what I do, I have to be very careful about dogs, more so than people. We've all seen roving packs of dogs in low income urban areas and sometimes in rural areas...they can be unpredictable. I love dogs and have no issue with a single dog, no matter how big. I have done giant-breed rescue, with Neapolitan Mastiffs and other large strong dogs and know how to deal with them. What I find unsettling is packs of dogs. Multiple dogs don't have to be all that big or strong in order to take down a human. When they come at you from multiple directions it can get ugly really fast. Retreating to my car is always the best bet, before anything unpleasant happens.

Like in my situation with that stupid Powerboat reports. I checked my credit report and it was clean so I just coughed up the stupid $15 to make it go away.

By the way my FICO is 738.

There are times that it's just simpler and quicker to buck-up and pay something just to avoid a battle over it. In my "day" job we pay for all sorts of things we don't owe just because the time and expense involved in fighting it exceeds anything we can recover by fighting it. Write-offs are part of doing business. My personal take is that I'd rather pay something small than eat up my time fighting over it...I figure I bill $100/hr, give or take, and don't see any point in sitting on hold for 30 minutes, burning cell minutes, over $15, unless the creditor has really annoyed me...then it's no longer a money issue, it's personal.

Depends on the pants and the weather...anything from a CZ70 loaded with 60 grain CorBon .32 Auto hollowpoints to any of a number of 1911's loaded with 185 grain .45ACP +P Remington Golden Saber hollowpoints...in Illinois just a pen and legal pad. The MO CCW isn't recognized on that side of the river. I must confess I feel naked in East St. Louis and other unsavory areas with no firearm.

Getting back on track...

Do you know how to track somebody, for example where they are working currently? If they are gainfully employed, I would think you can track them by the taxes they have taken out of thier check.
