How is it irrelevant? If he didn't have access to guns, he would have had a hard time doing this. The gun lobby will argue against me all day, but the first thing the BBC came out with regarding this story was the easy access to guns in the US and that PA is one of the more lenient states.
Would you suggest that no mass-murders have occured (or will occur again) at the point of a knife, hammer, stick, or bare-handed?

I have never, ever heard of a knife or gun or nuke intentionally hurt anybody.

How easy it is to forget one’s youthful transgressions? Thanks Alex.

I guess I have to be more careful around here, especially when joking around.

But as I said before, life to me is full of fun and I don't plan on worrying about things that don't affect me directly. After all, what good will it do if I sit here worrying about the Amish? It was a terrible deed the milkman did but it happened and there is nothing I can do about it. Should I sit here crying my eyes out for the little girls so then I can gain acceptance from you guys? Nope. Aren't you guys used to all these shootings by now? I still remember watching Columbine in 1999 which scared the hell out of me but after seeing 10 more of these shootings you sort of become immune.

By the way, if you take offense easily then DO NOT READ ON. My friend just gave me a call today telling me about a costume he's going to wear to some type of "OFFENSIVE COSTUME PARTY." He's trying to win the top prize so his idea is to dress up as a bloody Amish school girl. Now, this is not me so don't shoot the messenger.

Well, I'm off to school...econometrics is calling my name.

Hard to hold a knife or pistol without a thumb. Must be the thumbs responsibility.

You really should make sure you know what you're talking about before posting.

Saying that I live in some kind of isolated air-conditoined comfort, merely sitting around absorbing propaganda from the television is a VERY large and unfounded assumption on your part. And couldn't be much further from the truth.

A couple other folks here who make equally arrogant and flippant judgements of others, and who have equally inadequate knowledge of my experiences for making such broad assumptions, have made a similar mistake.

My entire 20-year career has involved traveling to other states and countries. In those two decades, I have lived and worked in a wider variety of locations and situations, with a more diverse assortment of people, and have simply done more "living", than most folks do in a LIFETIME. And CERTAINLY more than some snot-nosed, know-it-all, spoiled-brat, self-absorbed college kid.

As I said before... I defend his right to put his foot in his mouth as often as he wishes. He seems to be getting quite good at it. Practice makes perfect....

Yes. As a matter of fact, let's just be on the safe side and outlaw hands.

If no one had hands, it would be damned difficult to kill anyone, and we'd all be much safer!

I think I'll write my Congressman and suggest such legislation right away.

Gun control advocates are SO naive to the realities of the situation.

You REALLY think that criminals and/or insane people give a damn whether "access to guns" is legal or not?

They are already CRIMINALS! They don't CARE how many stupid gun-control laws you try to pass. They are ALREADY breaking the law, what the hell do they care about breaking one more???...

Gun control laws will only make it MORE difficult for the great majority of us who are sane, law-abiding citizens to defend ourselves from the aforementioned "wack-jobs".

If I were a criminal, and I KNEW that it was illegal to own a firearm in some particular state... then guess which state I'm moving to as soon as possible!!!!....

Yeah.

Hitler thought that way too.

And just look what he accomplished!

You've obviously never had anyone break into your home, or try to attack you and steal your car... or any of the many other horrible crimes that a legally-owned and intelligently-used gun can save you from.

My gun saved me from serious injury and/or death once already. If you want to take it from me, you'd better be prepared to kill me for it.

You want to call it a sport, give that moose a gun and see who is better.
I'm not a hunter, and I have never been hunting.

Although I am perfectly fine with hunting for food, I think hunting for "sport" is a waste of time, effort, and ammunition, and I have zero interest in it.

However, your comments are simply ridiculous.

WE are at the top of the food chain. Deal with it.

Knife, spear, trap, bow and arrow... whatever... The animal STILL dies.

What difference does it make what particular device is used to do it? A gun is simply a more accurate, efficient hunting tool (in qualified hands, of course).

At least it is usually quick and painless with a gun... more often than with other, more primitive weapons, at least.

Hunting with a gun is INFINITELY more humane than they way most predators in the animal kingdom kill their prey... Have you ever watched a cat torture a mouse before killing it and eating it?... Have you ever watched a snake suffocate a rabbit?... Humans are quite humane in our hunting habits, relatively speaking.

You got that right, even for a redneck who never left 'lanta nor read a book and obviously hates children, animals, and God.

I think that about covers it, Mike.

Cheers!

PS Change in plans. No visits to Atlanta, darn it! Did I tell you when I was a kid living in Morningside (early '60's) we used to follow the Atlanta Crackers baseball team? I loved going to the games. Damned if I know who won.

Uh, no big Bot, but you accidentally extended Mikes REALLY POOR thread response , and now it looks like riethoven said what Mike said.

Remember sports fans, when you edit quotes for length, be sure to leave all the [/s and ]s in the right place.

**EDIT** Whoops, my bad -- seems as thought this very serious breach of MS decorum originated with riethoven. Keep it clean guys. :fork_off:

I haven't heard much about sexual abuse among the Amish. Maybe it happens, I dunno. I have heard that they encourage their youth to go out into the world to live for a year or so to find out if they really want to stick with the Amish life. They seem to be enduring as a subset.

Did anybody catch the story about the Westborough Baptist Church saying they were going to protest at the funeral?? I heard a bit about it on MSNBC.

I heard some preacher on the radio yesterday, didn't catch the context, saying "this was NOT God's will!" apparently countering the sentiments of the Amish in question, who AFAIK, at least have said that God allowed this, now they must find the strength to forgive. They've already reached out to the killer's family. Amazing. I hope she and the kids convert and live among them.

Maybe the guy I heard on the radio is part of the Westb. Baptist crowd. But it's hard to believe that some other Christians would be crass enough to try to get into an arguement on God's will at the funeral.
