Hints on dealing with problem with Travelocity
Made a car rental reservation with Travelocity when I went to England over Xmas. Car rental company was off the airport so was given instructions to call the company and wait at point X for a shuttle. When we got there, called the phone number, got voice mail which did not identify the company. I left a message to be picked up. No one arrived to pick us up. I called 3 or 4 more times, getting the same message This is an Orange answerphone but no person ever answered the phone. The clerk at the Budget Car Rental desk also called the number after checking on the internet to make sure I had the right phone number. She got the same anonymous voice mail. After waiting and hour and half, I gave up and rented a car from Avis at the airport. Cost me $800 more than the original rental cost.
Travelocity guarantees their reservations. Ive been hassling with them since January. Owner of the car rental company claims I did not call. Says their phone never goes to an anonymous voice mail. Ive tried the same number twice since Ive been home and gotten the same anonymous voicemail each time. Travelocity is refusing to pay the difference between the costs on the basis of the rental companies claim that I never called them to pick me up. Any advice on how to deal with this?

How did you charge the phone call? Can you prove you made the call? Will your CC company sort it out?
Record dialing the number on speakerphone. case closed. |

If they refuse to honor their reservation guarantee, you've really got no choice but to sue them in small claims court. My question is whether a local court would have jurisdiction over an online retailer?
No surprise that they wouldn't honor their claim.........probably figure that you'll never be able to collect on it. |

It was a payphone. I used coins. My cell phone was not operational over there. No way to prove I called. But, why would I choose to spend an additional $800 unless they failed to pick us up? It's easy to prove that the car rental company is lying. Calling their number now leads to the same anonymous phone mail. In addition, the first e-mail response to the problem by the car rental owner was that their office was closed due to extreme winter weather and his duty manager directed me to get a car at National Car Rental. It was a sunny day and I never talked to anyone. His story is now different.
Travelocity doesn't require deposit on a car rental so I never used my card with the original reservation.

A credit card company would go to bat for you if you failed to receive something that you paid for.........but, in this case, it doesn't apply. |

You reserved it from your home, right? I'm no lawyer, but that's probably enough to sue them in your own jurisdiction. The respondent never chooses the venue in any case.

Not in this case. You failed to receive the product........period. Then, you selected a different product because the first product was not available. The CC company won't back this one..........IMHO. |

Kerry,
If you don't have luck for a while and you've documented everything to the best of your ability you might try finding your local TV news video blackmail artist "consumer advocate reporter." They are usually very good at getting someone on a phone line on the air who relents and gets the situation solved. Granted, it's often something like a roofing contractor who won't finish the job, or someone who isn't honoring some sort of contract, but you never know. I'm sure you can author a compelling narrative which you could then pitch to the networks. A smaller market station with it's own investigative journalist might be interested too, as those reporters are always looking to make a splash in something bigger than their little town. From living in Atlanta previously, I became acquainted with Clark Howard, who seems to have taken all the good of Ralph Nader and kept his unwanted self out of politics. He's a big dork with a radio show and book series and 100 people who assist him in solving consumer complaints such as yours. You might give them a try: http://clarkhoward.com/cac/ He's big on travel deals/travel sites, so it might be a case he takes personal interest in. He also sponsors several Habitat for Humanity builds/year, which makes him AOK in my book. Good luck! k

Travelocity Lies thru their Teeth
A co worker used them for a vacation in England and got seriously screwed over.
the hotel travelocity booked was listed as being in London and was part of a package pushed by a Travelocity pop up ad... Well the hotel was actually in KENT, about 1 1/2 hours travel by bus and train from London. They called Travelocity and were told "We do not have anything to do with the advertisements on our site. All the ads are prepared by the vendor/hotelier and we just post them. We depend on the vendor/hotelier for the accuracy of their advertisement." They ended up taking a room in London at a $1300 difference above the $1200 she already paid. Upon return to the US, She began the battle with her CC company. They initally credited her with a refun of the unused Hotel in Kent and then she was dunned by Travelocity's Collectiion Agency, numerous attempts were made to charge her acount again by the colletion agency and an off shore creit agency that handles Travelocity's European bookings. She ended up having to close her account and get a new account to stop the recharges. then she gets her credit reports and low and behold travelocity has filed a claim of non payment for services rendered against her. that was finally removed after the NY State Atty Generals Office took on her case. She was harrassed by phone and by mail by travelocity and their agents, was the victim of false credit history attacks and it almost took a Judges order to correct her records. Think you are getting a deal? Try the shaft! Travelocity and Orbitz are owned by the Airlines and a Hotel chain not an independent firm. Ever wonder why you don't see Southwest Airlines or any of the smaller discount hotel or the "Atelier" type hotels on there? Simple, they don;t play the game of "screw the customer" so they are not wanted at Travelocity and Orbitz. Both have also been the source of numerous ID Theft rings thanks to their failure to do background checks on their new hires. Everytime I have booked a flight, a room or a car I have always been able to get a lower price than all the on line travel services by going direct to the airline, hotel or car agency on line. |

It is pretty obvious that you called. "No I just wasted $800 dollars for the hell of it, judge, I'm like that, really stupid, can't you tell?"
In the future notice that the best prices can be had by contacting the companies directly. Use travelocity, etc, as a guideline. |

I'm still hassling with this. Had a 3 way phone call with Travelocity and Practical. Practical manager claimed I didn't call and that their phone never goes to an anonymous voice mail. Repeated my story and Travelocity is supposed to get back to me. I called the Practical number again immediately after talking to the manager and got the same anonymous voice mailbox!
I've since found a number of similar stories regarding Practical Car Rental.
