I did the eulogoy for my mom and also all the other stuff related to a funeral, and had 2 days to do it.

You've made a good start onthe eulogy above. As a suggestion write notes about 5-10 words long about what he liked, the arc of his life, how he influenced you and others. Put in a favorite saying of his or many of them.

Once you have a page or 2 of these notes, string them together into a narrative.

Print everything in a large font to make it easier to read. Rehearse it as you can, and try to say it a wisker slower than normal conversation.

Best wishes in a difficult time.

Your eulogy is always optional. Many people are too overcome to speak. I managed to do it for my dad, even though I'm pretty useless when it comes to other people's funerals. But I comitted to doing it and I practiced my talk for a day or 2. Amazingly I stayed remarkably composed up there. Once the coffin was closed after the viewing (the hardest part for me) it all started getting easier.

It is not usual in my opinion for an individual to be astute enough to rate other factors than blood more important in human family relationships. Or the real importance of setting an example to follow.

Some of our kids that are now getting to be middle aged feel that if myself and the wife had not come along their lives might have been much less. Actually they did it themselves. Yes with some guidance but they still did it themselves.

You can only lead a horse to water. Plus you apparently possess those genes that allowed for a good father son relationship to develop.

Try to remember your father was not just average. Neither are you. Take care and if he lived out an approximate normal lifespan should be a factor as well. He will be remembered. The grief you feel is a healthy reflection of the importance of the bond you both had in my opinion. Very sorry for your loss.

My own father and mother are long gone now. We only have one each of them. Makes life and the passage of time seem short from my currently aging perspective.

Like you, many of us, including me, have lost a father so we know what you are going through.

My sincere condolences.

When we come into this world we each have little except those around us, and what they give to us.
The time between when we come into this world and the time when we leave this world, we have the chance to give.
When we leave, we have the opportunity to see what we have given.

Many knew different sides of Paul McCue. He was a friend, an uncle, a brother inlaw, a brother, a husband, a grandfather.
To all of you and those not able to be here, he gave much. His father Samuel and Grandfather Harry and those before them instilled in him, and passed onto him, the ability to give.
They set the bar very high, yet gave him the motivation, the skills, and the determination to clear that bar.

He stood on their shoulders to reach higher. Their goal, and his, at least in my world, was to be the best father they could be.
I was chosen to be his son, and I could not have asked for a better father.
All he has given me I could never truly put into words, but I know what it is.
He watched me as I received it, and he is watching me as I pass it to his grandsons,
for I have the great honor to have stood on, and continue to stand on, his shoulders.
Paul McCue, my father, was the greatest man I ever met.

I wish you peace in these rough times. To every thing, there is a season...

I often hope that when my time comes, my sons uplift me half as much as you are uplifting your father

Today I put my father into the ground, but he is not there. He is in Heaven, and in many hearts and many minds. Today I became something I was not before, but no one ever wants to have to walk down the path that makes you this. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

I left my condolences on Facebook for you William but since I met you here I want to include it here!
You have been a pleasure to get to know in this small way, but it is obvious to me what kind of man your father helped you become.
Now be everything to your boys that your father was to you.
Oh that's right, you're well on your way......
