A knife doesn't impart the feeling of huge power to the bearer the same way a gun does. And it's not nearly as deadly. Imagine if the school principle has lunged at Lanza and all he held was a big knife. She looks fairly strong and healthy in pictures I've seen. A good chance she could have wrestled with him successfully enough to live while loudly calling for help, perhaps sustaining a few cuts. One can fight on with a cut or two short of a lucky slash to the neck, or a full on stab in the chest. You pick up a chair and prevent that.

The gun enabled his weenie ass to utterly dispatch anyone who came at him, short of 20 people rushing him at once which didn't happen and is unlikely to happen.

All due respects all, the 'knife' argument is way past tired.
