Enrolled and attending classes does not make one qualified as being proficient...

This is ABSOLUTELY true in learning instrument flying. Also, this is life and death stuff. Partial proficiency will kill you and HAS killed many pilots. To begin with, you have to overcome your tendency to do what your normal sense of motion tells you and do what your instruments tell you to do even when your sense of motion says it is wrong. Overcoming that takes time. Basically you have to learn to trust your instruments instead of your inner reflexes.

Secondly, it just takes time and concentration. Until you've done it, I don't think that there is anyway to understand what is involved to learn it. You know, sort of like Nancy saying, "you have to vote on it, before you can see what's in it."

Watch this video, substituting pitch dark for the clouds. The effect is the same.

neither does it imply a cavalier or feckless attitude regarding the importance of proper training.

Further reading of the full narrative NTSB report indicates that JFK Jr had some trouble with section 11 of his training, so he took that segment over 2 more times to ensure that he had a good grasp of the topic.
This does not speak to an attitude of elitism or carelessness, but rather of personal responsibility and a desire to get as much out of the class as possible.

GROUND training. He was likely very much like many pilots I've known, who "worked on" their IR for years without ever getting it or being proficient on instruments. To many private pilots, having an IR is a macho thing. Additionally, a number of these guys THOUGHT that they could fly in the clouds "if they needed to." EVERYTHING I've seen and read about John leads me to THINK that he was in this category.

Dude... please read the NTSB report I have linked to at least a dozen times....

You just keep making $hit up.....

His instrument training included simulator and actual flight time. In addition to the flight time he had as part of his classes, he also continued his training with CFI's on his own, in his own plane.

well, id have to be a singular fool to believe that someones overconfidence came from when they were 3 years old and the biggest memory would be the death of their father at that time.
As far as I know, there is only one singular fool here who keeps making that connection.

aryan brotherhood? huh? these little quips are easier to discuss when they make sense, if anyone has the aryan brotherhood working for them, it would be a radical zealot who claims hes a conservative. As I said before, you may be something, but it sure isn't conservative, not with all your suspensions of civil liberties and personal freedom.

As far as his "overconfidence", without having been on the flight deck, its pretty hard to tell what actually went down, though elitist overconfidence could easily describe your reaction to his situation, sure. Nothing like an armchair strategist, you have your own plane, you constantly tell us how spectacular a person you are, you constantly tell us about your piloting skills, and that somehow enables you to make harsh judgements on things that can't possibly be known about this accident.
Personally, I doubt it was overconfidence that killed him and his passengers, but a simple mistake compounding mistake.
You show a lot of class condemning the guy literally a couple years from birth based on what? your dislike of kennedy's in general? or your dislike of democrats/liberals despite not really understanding what anyone says from that quarter? Remind yourself what Kennedys proposed policies and platform was, other than "he was democrat"
John F. Kennedy for President 1960 Campaign Brochure

What I see in you is a guy who bases his political beliefs, personal beliefs and foggy comprehension of both on hate. You hate this guys family, therefore he died purposely because hes related, and because hes guilty of being hated by you, the ends justify the means.

There was a time in this country when major political parties didn't curry the favor of extreme zealots like yourself trying to expand their support base, but I guess the easily digested soundbyte reigns supreme, and we have to put up with on a national news level whatever crackpot lunatic pet theory happens to fit with someones personal prejudices.

People like you represent the real danger to this country, the sooner we lazily surrender our capacity to compromise with our fellow countrymen, the sooner every single simple issue is polarized based on emotion, and not on fact. In many ways its too late, but if enough of us remember how to compromise, it may be salvageable.

I agree with this entire post, but especially with the bolded segment.

Very true, and possibly the biggest problem our country faces today, because it paralyzes our ability to address any issue.

And YOU need to read some of what is in your OWN link:

"He also stated that he would not have felt comfortable with the accident pilot conducting night flight operations on a route similar to the one flown on, and in weather conditions similar to those that existed on, the night of the accident."

DUDE! The guy was NOT instrument competent, and there is NOTHING in your link that indicates otherwise! WHY is that so difficult for you to understand?

Half of an instrument course, does NOT an instrument pilot make!

Let me ask you this, if the CFI quoted above, had told you what he said about Johns capability, would YOU have flown with him on that route, on that night?

If your answer is yes, God help you.

Of course, when the girls got nabbed using the fake ID's the Conservatives went nuts and whined about how everyone uses fake ID's and racking up a Felony or two was no big deal. After all, Kids are Kids and they all get into trouble now and then.

And whey they spoke at the Republican Convention, saying that they had been in trouble now and then, the crowd just went 'Awwwww' and laughed it off.

But then, they are Conservatives, so breaking the law is a pretty routine thing. I mean, judging from the reaction of the right wingers to their 'childhood antics', it must be.
I don't GAS about what the Prez's kids do... My point was the Obama family seems to be on one constant vacation, at our expense. What kid wouldn't like that?

Fake IDs a felony? On what planet?

If I could buy you for what you actually know about me, and sell you for what you THINK that you know about me, I could pay off the national debt and have enough left over to fund the countries extravagant lifestyle for quite a long time.

Thanks Tex, I missed the ridiculous statement about fake ID's being a felony.
