I read a similar account recently in Washington State. Accordingly a sex offender is about to be released, but some in the State think it a bad idea. In Washington they have a registered sex offender program that mandates that former offenders register their living and working locations with the state.

At some point, a person has served their debt to society. That’s what the court system decides. WTF do a bunch of hair brained ninnies decide instead of the court?

Well? To rephrase that in case you didn't get it.

Point? That we should ignore the fact that the time was served as prescribed?

It often gives one a certain perspectives on perverts that childless adults often lack.

Does it also give the perspective that despite what he has done or we think he might do, we cannot simply hold him because it makes some more comfortable and laws be damned?

I definitely do not want a 2 time rapist in my neighborhood seeing as I have a wife around. OTOH, I can't legally ask that he be locked up in GITMO just because. If he did his time, we have no legal reason to hold him and thus have to release him regardless of how we feel. Whatever my perspective because I have a wife is irrelevant. That he is now a free man according to our laws is relevant. Either change the laws or live with them.

Sure because all that matters in this world is whether or not it's legal.

That must be some kind of Ferrenghi rule.

So what's your suggestion? That we look the other way "this one time and no more"? Until the next "this one time and no more" or the one after that?

I wish more people would check the recidivism rates of sex offenders, before assuming who can or can't be returned to society.

You raise a great point, compared to other crimes 20% is very low, if I read that article correctly that means 20% commit a crime not a sex crime. It said less than 1% commit a new sex crime.

Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) - Recidivism

The recidivism rate for car thieves is almost 79% so upon apprehension shouldn't we cut off their hands and feet?

I don't like those odds. I would not be OK with a one percent chance that I would be robbed while walking down the street, or have my car catch on fire, or whatever.
