Seems a bit overpriced to me, what's KBB say? I know what you're saying about finding the combo you want though. Sounds like a fair deal (but not a GREAT deal) if the records on it are good. Course with the 104 you have to worry about the head gasket leaking and wiring harness problems (but that's about it for the common problems), but in general you're best off buying the LAST year of a particular model than the first year. 124's might be an exception to that, I think I'd find the last of the 103's (not that worthless first gen 4magic tho) or a CIS-E 104 coupe, I don't think they had 104 CIS sedans. Myself I'd skip from the 123 right to a 210.

Missing the critical point - rust and corrosion don't attack just one part, they attack the whole car, whether you can see it or not. What you can see is the tip of the iceberg. It's not just the underbody and eventually paint but also hundreds of nuts and bolts and other fasteners that are going to be harder to break loose than they should be, and it just gets worse over time.

ASR is another mark against the car. Do a search for " ASR light" above and you will not likely want to own a car with ASR.

Yeah but I prefer the boxy MB shape over the round, it just seems more like a Mercedes. Spring perches? And I don't like the interiors as well as the 124s.

Interesting. If you like the 90-92 CIS-E 124 coupes more than the 93+ HFM coupes does it follow that in the 104 / 140 bodies you like the 92-93 300SEs more than the 94+ HFMs?

I don't know what it is, but I just don't remember nearly as many 140's blowing headgaskets like the 124 and 202's. Maybe just that there were alot more 124's and 202's made than 140's. The CIS-E 104 engines were just so bullet-proof, hardly anything goes wrong with them, no rotted out wiring harnesses to worry about. d. delano, I know what you mean about the perches, still pretty rare relatively speaking. I just like the looks of the 210 better and the 210 just seems to be alot more mechanic-friendly to work on.

Buy It!

I say buy the darn car if you like it. I like you have been looking for the right 124 for the last 2 years. For me that was a 94 or 95 Black w/Parchment with exceptionally low mileage. I found it in Fla about 3 weeks ago with 41k miles. Paid a little over 9 grand for it. One owner, perfect car. Previously had a 94 that I sold with 66k on it, that spent its entire life in Buffalo, NY, it had some rust from time to time, which I always took care of, and wasnt that much of a bother as long as you kept up with it. The real good ones are very hard to find now, if you can get one and it is what you are looking for, don't hesitate. I don't need another car until spring but I knew another would not come along again.

I have the exact car , color and all....except mine now has 235K on it.
I have owned Benz chassis for 45 years and this one is second best of all I have owned. First being a 114 chassis 250 that I bought new and had for 17 years ..by far ,the best of all of them..my neighbor still drives it.

Even with today's gas prices I'd still rather it be an E420. An M119 under the hood would make it perfect in my book.

Still a very nice example.

I have had terrific service with the 104 .. Still runs like new ..and as strong, smooth, and quiet as when new. Even has the original chain and valve seals. Hard engine to beat .

I have one Black on Black

I am not sure if my pic will upload or not. I just got one last year from Dallas. I agree with you that Black on black is very hard to find. I pay $7000 for it. One owner. I am very happy with it. I agree about car from south. They are very clean with no salt on road.

I just bought one and really like it. The profile and stance are lower and sleeker than earlier W124s, and the lower cladding/trim definitely lengthens the car visually, giving it an S-Class look without the bulk.

Mine is a Special Edition, but I don't know what makes it so. What I do know is that is one of the late-95 builds, with the same engine, transmission, and some mechanicals as the 96 E320.

Not knowing what a Special Edition is, what makes you think it is one?
