The CAT did cross my mind, but not knowing what's been done to the car up to the point when you got it makes it hard to diagnose. But maybe running with a spark plug out is an indication, I don't know since I've never had a bad cat (on a car anyway). I find it pretty weird that you took a plug out and started the car up...I wouldn't have the nerve.
At this point I would try to disconnect the CAT and see if it runs.

Sorry guys been really busy and haven't had time to check everyone suggestions. Momma wanted new hardwood floor in our room..ha ha ha
I have to make a confession on the starting with a plug out..It was on accident that I done that..I was trying to bring the piston up TDC to check the timing..ummmm forgot to unhook the coil.. (I hear you laughing Dave)..
Anyways the pic of the cable you sent me Dave, is the same one I found pinched underneath the power steering...so you maybe on to something there..I didn't realize what that was..where is a good place to get MB parts online?
