Hi All...
Yes Dave, I did use a hard felt tip on my Dremel. Taking a prior posts idea I attacked a piece of trim the other day with some 1000 grit and liked what I was seeing. Being the impatiend type, I decided to go to 600. It was working great until I reached a spot where I went through the anodized coating. UH-OH!!, I thought but what was coming through was clean, bright aluminum. Since I started, I decide to keep going until I had stripped the whole piece. Went to 1000, 2000, white polishing compound and then Green Magic. All I can say is WOW!! Looks brand new!! It will take 40 forevers to do all the trim this way so I'm thinking that this weekend I'll try attacking another piece with a Dremel. I'll let you know how it goes.
Have a great weekend!!!
Ralph

I dont think that removing the anodize layer is a good idea. It sounds like you sanded yours off completely. I would expect the aluminum to oxidize very quickley without the anodize layer. Let us know how it looks in the long term. It sounds like it would take a LOT of work to sand all the pieces of trim several times - 600, 1000, 2000, compound and then green magic - WOW. Well - I never argue with success. Whatever works.

I am familiar with the anodize process that is used in processing industrial parts. The reason that they use it is to keep the aluminum from oxidizing and it also makes the surface very hard and non-conductive to electricity. It makes sense to my why they anodize the trim in the first place.

When I was experimenting with the various products, I too went thru the anodize layer in a small spot. It is significantly softer than the anodize layer.

Thanks for you feedback.

Green Magic results

A big thanks to Dave for his efforts,
I own a 1978 300cd with pleanty of chrome! This was the first year that this vehicle was produced(US). Mine happens to be 000766 so I feel that my vehicle was one of the first run parts vehicles that Mercedes produced in this model. The c123 coupe has these big belt moldings that glide down the side of the vehicle till they get to the back glass and then turn up and around back to the top of the fnt glass. This chrome molding IMHO is the centerpiece of the exterior. They are $350.00 apiece from MB. I had aquired a 280ce parts car with pretty good chrome better than my original. So after using anything and everything I sent my check off to dave for the "green Magic." The product is very good, some of the best that I have seen (Worked in bodyshops for 8 years.) To be honest and accurate to the brothers and sisters of the Benz, it did not fix my chrome problem. The G.M. has done remarkable job on the surfaces that have not had the (coating?) These moldings around the windows seem to be some sort of metal that has been chromed on the door piece then changes to a different process on the 1/4 glass and surround. SO if you have an old c123 with these moldings it polish may or may not work completely, depending on the condition of you trim. NOT DAVES FAULT
I have used the stuff on lots of other metals at it works great, belt buckle, silverware, picture frames, putter. just .02 email if anyone has more specific questions. CD in SC

I have a 1985 300CD and it didn't work on my car either. I'm not bummed about my results because I can use it on many other things. In fact, it worked great on the stainless on my Grand Wagoneer.

Has anyone tried Woody Wax? (www.woody-wax.com) I found it on the net. I'd like to know results if anyone has used it. I emailed them and they told me it would work great.

Gee .. I feel like a snake oil salesman now. All I can say is it worked for me. I did not use any smoke and mirrors to create the photos I posted. Is there anybody who has had a positive result using the "green magic". Sure would like to hear about some positive experiences.

I think I will go wash my hands.

Excellent Results!

I had great results with GM on my 420SEL. I just applied it with a paper towel and rubbed it off. It looked so good I never bothered going the dremel route.

A+++ Dave

Dave, not snake oil. I was pleased with the GM I got from you. When i first tried just rubbing it on and buffing it with a cloth it did nothing. I then tried it with a dremel like you suggested and it made a great difference. The GM doesnt seem to remove the cloudiness on the trim, it does however put a good shine on it. Dont know if I'm explaining this well, if you look at the trim in bright light you can still see where the cloudiness was on the trim, think of giving a good wax job to a car with peeling clearcoat, you will get a good shine but you can see where it was peeling anyway. Its not a 100% cure but I'm not embarassed by my trim anymore.

Talking

Hi Dave:

Man!! that Green Magic sure sounds great! I spent three hours today detailing the heck out of my 300-D. It looks great until you notice the hazy trim around the windows. Is there any availability left on the stuff? I sure would like to get some. Thanks-- you're a gentleman and a scholar!!
