This stuff works great on any aluminum surface. However I have seen that most wheels are clear coated to prevent oxidation. It will not work thru the clear coat. On pure aluminum its great.

Actually one of the larger customers for this stuff is a place here in Houston that refinishes aluminum wheels for 18 wheeler trucks.

I'm sorry Dave.

Been mad busy lately with work and all. I'm in the process of purchasing a car from another forum member and have been devoting most of my time to learning about that model, setting upo airfare and stuff to get to the car. I'll try to get to it a bit on Friday to see what happens. I don't have one of those dremel? tools to use, so it's just rags for me. If I buy one, what's a good brand? I do have an Eastwood catalogue to look at. I'll let you know results as soon as I can. Again, thanks for this service you've provided for so many of us!

This info is about ten years old. But almost all of the entrants of the Oakland (CA)show used Simichrome on the aluminum and Mothers on the chrome.

Stefano, I believe it is critical that you use a dremel and a hard felt buffing wheel. You can do it by hand but it take a lot of rubbing and you will probably be disapointed with the hand results.

Yeah, in reading some of the earlier posts, I gathered that. That's one reason why I haven't gotten to it yet. I'll just order one from Eastwood then see what it will do. Thanks!

I'm interested in this, I'm gonna try a few polishes I already have first as the worst thing I can do is make a mess.

For right now, to hide the hideous looking trim, I put some of Meguir's Trim & Detail stuff on it. (meant for black rubber trim, brings life back) Which makes it glow, but surely doesn't shine like chrome....

You wouldn't happen to have a extra bottle setting around would you?

I had a company that does anodizing tell me the reason my aluminum is cloudy is because the anodizing finish wore off (or wore out) and the aluminum is oxidizing.

So polishing the alumimum will make it shine, but the cloudyness will come back quickly because it doesn't have any protection.

It seems like if you waxed it, that would prolong the shine quite a bit longer. I guess if the anodizing is really gone and your down to the aluminum, trully there are only two things re-anodize ($$) or just clearcoat it. That's what most aluminum rims are, clearcoated, granted they still will corrode in time if not taken proper care of (waxed) but....

oh yea and I tried some Eagle One Mag Polish and it seemed to work pretty nice but wow, this is gonna take FOREVER . I don't have a dremel (rotozip, and without a doubt that's too fast. I tried this before on rims with the rotozip, non-pleasing results...) so right now I'm using my cordless hammerdrill with the little dremel bit.

Hey Dave,
I sure would like to try some of that Green Magic. I have original chrome wheel guards which sure could use some help. I tried replacing, but with the Zender package they would not fit well as old style. The new ones I got were quite, well how can I put this, expensive but cheap in make. Anyway, some heavy pits and oxy. on some other pcs. Would provide full feed back, good or bad.

At the last MB diesel meet in NJ, some people were using a product called Sheila Shine.

It shined the trim beautifully, but I got the impression that it wasn't polishing so much as sealing over the oxidation. It would have to be reapplied after a rain or a car wash, but it worked very well on a couple of 108's assembled at the meet.
