I am also curious about setting up a little propane sniffer to my 300D, something simple like having a little propane bottle and the valving from a torch put it in the center console area and just running some small tubing from it to the intake? The valve on the torch would supply a small amount of propane by simply turning the knob when I would need it.
I've wondered if running propane like that would cause any serious problems to the engine.

Yes, I'm from Finland, and am quite active in www.mersuforum.net (Admin on moderating area), finish MB forum.
This is a picture from my recent engine, don't be afraid, it will not stay that messy, This is taken at the same day I got it working: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/kolja1/Mersukuvat4/konehuone.jpg Turbo is Holset HX40, intercooler is big enough: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/kolja1/Mersukuvat3/cooleri.jpg Exchaust manifold is specially made for that turbo: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/kolja1/Mersukuvat3/24Vpakosarja.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/kolja1/Mersukuvat4/teipattusarja3.jpg The car has two H&M:s biggest oil coolers, one for engine and one for transmission (722.3, reinforced to be much stronger than in W140 600 SE, turbine made to stall speed 3000): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/kolja1/Mersukuvat4/oljynjaahdytin.jpg Those videos about my car are taken from last summer, I was suffering some technical problems with boost leak and the fact that exchaus manifold was loose all the time, stud bolts from the cylinder head were coming out. This made the car hard to drive in the start, it was difficult to get the boost up before first 100 meters. 60 ft times was worst ever (2.6 - 2.9 seconds). Of course the street tires are not too good on glued track. With this new engine I expect much better times, output should be around 500 hp and 800 Nm, that is the target. 12.17 seconds 0-60 300sd
I posted a while back that my 83 300sd was doing zero to sixty in the 12 second range and there were some pretty sceptical members, mostly SDL owners. Well here it is for you, in living color. This timing was done in Palm Desert, CA on Cook Street, between Frank Sinatra and Country Club just berfore Ralphs grocery store. Any member from the Palm Springs area can vouch that this is the location in the video and that the road is very flat.
The spedometer showing 55 is actually 60mph, and I did a slight power-brake, hence the oil pressure pegged at 3 and wheel-spin. zero to sixty--12.17 seconds spedometer--5mph low at 60mph partly due to 205/70 tires, tested by radar and spot to spot timing ambient temp--106 degrees egr--non-functional vac valve 3/2 way on top of valve cover--non-functional mpg--23-24/city 28-31/freeway (depending on speed) alda and boost--adjusted by indy who drives a 300sd himself Last edited by wols0003; 08-09-2005 at 11:05 AM. You can't attach it to the forum directly, e-mail me it and I'll host it for you via a link that people can save from.
Send the video to: pawo@tglmarketinginc.com

With the fuel delivery turned up my 1987 300D is in the low 9's, per my AP-22 performance computer (and dragstrip testing). I'm hoping to get the water injection installed by the end of the month so I can max out the pump like Casey did with his intercooler. If he's getting low 8's in a wagon, I should theoretically be able to manage high 7's in my sedan! I wonder how much gain we'd get bumping the stock 2.65 gears to the easily-available 2.87 ratio... minimal loss in economy, but might really perk things up off the line.
