I did mine to prevent future problems and it was the ideal time since the EGR valve was 99.9% non functional and being removed.

One quick tip, rather than cut & thread the rod I simply installed the nuts from the old unit on the new unit before installing it. This moved the actuator far enough that no cutting was required and allowed some pre-load.

Check out this thread, Chris did a good job of condensing the info.

That does seem like a simple/elegant solution (or just use a few washers)....especially for those of us who have never cut threads before. I know it's simple...but some of us find a way to screw up simple things.

Just talked to ATP. They should have an idea by the end of the week as to when the actuators will be back in stock.

Arg. So we wont know until later in the week..that they'll be in stock in another X weeks. Lol. We wont get them for 6-8 weeks.

I wonder if we can find another source as a precautionary measure.

From an email today:
Quote:
Please see notes below on stock issue:
Thank you for your order. Unfortunately we ran of stock recently and are working to replenish. It could be 4-6 weeks before we get these back in stock again. If you would like, we can cancel, refund you and then notify you when these arrive again so you can place your order if you still need it. Please let us know.
I did find another actuator, but its 18psi..
http://www.treadstoneperformance.com/product.phtml?p=769&cat_key=660&prodname=Wastegate+Actuator%2C+18psi

Here is another 14psi, but the rod would have to be shortened, and its more expensive.
http://www.rallysportdirect.com/Turbosmart-TS-0681-5142-Internal-Wastegate-Actuator-14psi-150mm-Rod

This seems to be a pretty good deal! I could buy this and sell off the rest! I'm just not sure how ones "adjusts" its to the appropriate length so that we achieve the desired cutoff. I would imagine the length of the rod governs that? Can anyone confirm the sizes (mounting and rod length, hole diamter?)

Does anyone know if the following is the right part?

5 of Lot Turbo Internal Wastegate Actuator for Garrett GT12 GT1241 756068-1 | eBay

Since buying in lot of five, would be cheaper for us.

Someone should hit a PnP to see if a Saab unit like this will work - 1990 1991 Classic Saab 900 16V Watercooled Garrett Turbocharger Waste Gate | eBay

Would trying a Volvo actuator be thinking inside the box?

Y'all should be trying to find a wastegate that fits the 1987 190D Turbo, which should be 100% bolt on for the 124.128 motors. I was never able to definitely pinpoint the part number for this, nor locate a source... I think it would eliminate the need for rethreading the rod or shimming the mount. Since I no longer own any 602.962's, I'll have to pass the baton to the next guinea pig.

I pulled up an 87 190D Turbo in the EPC. So am I to gather that it doesn't show up as a distinct part, that it's just part of the turbo?

What model turbo is that (not MB model but manufacturer model)?

That might help.

According to http://www.turbo-product.com/Mercedes-Benz/

It is a Garrett TB2550. Other OM602s were equipped with Garrett TB2510 equipment as well.

This information was previously located by gsxr as well.

Turbos. Exploded Parts Diagrams:
http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/catalogs/model.php?base=garrett&pagina=TB25

Garrett TB2550:
http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/garrett_parts_list/466880-0002.php

Garrett TB2510:
http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/garrett_parts_list/466880-0003.php

Both of which carry the same part number wastegate actuator:
432340-0004

I shot an email off to Garrett.

Quote:
Hello,

I have a question regarding a wastegate actuator for the turbo installed on my 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300D 2.5 Turbo. The factory system from Mercedes uses a vacuum controlled wastegate actuator. I would like to eliminate this and return to the traditional pressure controlled actuator. However I am having difficulty find the actuator I need. I believe it is 433489-12. However that seems to be out of stock in most places so I was looking for an alternative. I was told that the TB2510 or TB2550 units might have a suitable pressure actuator that I can install on my current turbo, its part number is 432340-0004. I was hoping you could clear this up for me and perhaps provide me with some mechanical drawings of the actuators as well as put me in touch with someone I might purchase a unit from .

Thank You.

-Kris

Here's the VIN I used: WDBDB28D4HF331167.

Correct. MB does not sell the wastegate actuator separately. You have to figure out the Garrett part number and then try to buy that from a Garrett distributor.
